When I saw that there was a new post from you in this thread and the transfer thread, I got excited. I was thinking the Stoke loss may have lit a fire under our arse to buy someone.

Don't mind this. Didn't rate him at all

I've been following Arsenal closely since, I guess, 2012-13. I just don't know how some of you have been able to withstand a decade or more of this repetitive cycle.
Don't get me wrong. I'll watch every match. I'll hope against hope we get it right and make a run. But I'll inevitably remember after a loss at Stoke or an early exit from, well, not CL, so Europa, I guess, or a 4-0 Boxing day defeat at some recently promoted side, that it's the same shite, year in, year out with Arsene.
I really, really want to see him go out on a high. I really, really fear that he missed the chance after the 2014 FA Cup.
This shite with four fullbacks in a five-man defense is just laughable. The tactical naivety with which we continue to play with exceeds comprehension. The back 3 was a temporary patch (LINK /) and now we're back to square one.
I hope I can come back and read this post in May and laugh at my pessimism but I'll be shocked if we can mount any sort of title run, and I'm fairly sure we're going to have to battle our asses off just to get back in the top 4.

Every year I go into the season giving Wenger the benefit of the doubt but he always let's me down. I knew the 2 year deal was a bad idea but I said to myself to give him a chance. He already is making bad decisions. Can you believe he said the reason he put Walcott on was because he is good at crossing. Since when? Arsene will say anything to avoid taking responsibility for his mistakes.

I didn't really understand why he took off our current best player in Xhaka or our record signing in Lacazette. I guess you can make an argument for fresh legs, but bringing on Walcott gave me no hope at all.
Also, I was thinking this during the game. With Xhaka providing so many great passes, I almost feel like he is making Ozil less important. I could be way off here, but it just seems that as Xhaka has risen, Ozil has fallen. I just wonder what the team would look like with Iwobi playing in that 10 spot just to see how it works.

Well to be fair, Fab and Nasri leaving in the same season broke him. Our teams before 2012 were much more tactically adept. Go watch our 2009 season and see how good we were at spacing. Our spacing has gone to shite, and we don't have someone who can teach that game.

There was a stat that Walcott last assisted Giroud in the premier league in 2013.
The subs we're stupid, but this happens every year with Arsene. Don't know what he was thinking with the defense or why mertesacker sat on the bench.

Some news from Arsene:
quote:
Arsene Wenger has confirmed their interest in signing Thomas Lemar is now over after Monaco decided they were not willing to sell the midfielder.
"I want to keep my best players," said Wenger. "My only target is to keep everyone on board. We've invested time and money and confidence on players like Ox and they have a responsibility. I hope he commits."
"I am completely happy with the strength of squad and I have too many players, some with no chance to compete for places."
"No I do not expect (any offers for Mustafi)," he said in his press conference.
"It is difficult for me to speak about any individual cases because we are now in the final seven days of the transfer market and it is always very difficult to predict what will happen there."

At least Tottenham is going to get creampied in the group stages of UCL.

Ox turned down a new £180K a week deal. Looks like he may be sold now.

That's disappointing.

quote:Rumor is he wants to play centrally and for a big club that can afford his wages, but which of the big clubs would give him a chance in the middle? Liverpool could possibly use him as an alternative to Henderson, Wijnaldum, and Can. I can't see him getting starter minutes on any of the other top clubs as a CM or winger. He makes great drives foward with the ball at his feet, but his final pass and shot leave something to be desired.
That's disappointing.

I'm actually not that disappointed in it. He does some things well. He's good at getting the ball out of our half and working up the field. When he is in the final 3rd, though, I just never have any confidence that he is going to do anything productive. Of course, losing him and not getting someone before the window closes is worse than keeping him.

That's also if he ends up being sold. If not, his contract runs out and he can leave on a free. That could be around 80m pounds walking out of the door for free next season between he and Alexis.
None the less, 180k a week for Ox is crazy, if that number is true.

Sell Ox. I will miss his five good games a year.
Posted on 8/25/17 at 4:13 pm to Stewie Griffin
He's not great centrally. I wish we would go back to the 4-3-3 with the midfield rotation. It got the best out of Walcott, who was once a super productive winger, and would suit Alexis. Ozil could play as a false 9 at times or in a withdrawn role, like Fabregas did. It kills me that we've lost the tactical nous that we once had. I think I have a bunch of old games from 2009 and I want people to see what type of position we use to have. It was so much better than what we have now.
I realized the other day that I've been following Arsenal for half my damn life or so. I don't even want to win games anymore, I just want a functional system that doesn't leave players in terrible positions, at which point fans will invariably blame players and not the positioning.

Reports that Mustafi has agreed to join Inter. Wtf?

And we're gonna sell Gibbs. What the hell is happening? We bought Laca and now it's like a fire sale.

Ya. Last year.
I've never been a fan of the back three for us. Could end up working out but feels like fools gold.
Problem is we are more disorganized than every team we play, and organization in the modern game is as big a component of success as anything.
On Ox, I don't blame him at all for being frustrated. Wenger has raved for years about his future being in the center but never plays him there. I think he could develop there but I do think he's a winger. If he had Alexis' grit and fire he'd be world class. He's just so mentally fragile.
On Mustafi, I'm fine if we selll only if we buy better. And I really wish we hadn't have sold Gabriel, who you'll recall was also our backup RB.
