UEFA president Michel Platini, who was questioned by Swiss investigators in relation to a "disloyal payment" made by FIFA, has assured that it "relates to work" which he performed "under a contract" with world football's governing body.
The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has opened a criminal investigation into the FIFA president, Joseph Blatter, under allegations of criminal mismanagement and misappropriation, according to a statement released by the government authority.
Blatter is accused of making a "disloyal payment" of 2 million Swiss francs (around 2 million euros today) to Platini "at the expense of FIFA". The money was "allegedly" paid to cover work performed between 1999 and 2002. Nevertheless, the payment was not made until 2011, the Office of the Attorney General notes.
"Today I was asked by the Swiss authorities to provide information relating to the ongoing investigations surrounding FIFA. I have always been open to supporting the relevant bodies and authorities in their investigative work and therefore cooperated fully", assured Platini in a statement.
"Regarding the payment that was made to me, I wish to state that this amount relates to work which I carried out under a contract with FIFA and I was pleased to have been able to clarify all matters relating to this with the authorities", he continued. The Frenchman also "made clear to the Swiss authorities" that he is "available to speak with them any time to clarify any matters relating to the investigations", given that he resides in Switzerland.

Right now, I feel like a Platini indictment is a bigger catch for prosecutors. He is mainly responsible for the Qatar 2022 fiasco. Obviously, Blatter is the great white whale for everyone, but he didn't finagle the 2018/2022 voting process as much as Platini.
