Anyone know what the shots on target were for us and Colombia?

I know they outshot us 9-8, but our only shot on target was Dempsey's free kick.

7-2 in favor of Columbia, but IIRC, most of their's were low potential.

I barely remember Dempsey's free kick at this point.

Dissappionted but expected.

Cover that corner better and who knows?

You see that handball called for a PK get missed often in matches, was unlucky there.

Felt like we had a few decent chance at goals just missed out.

Wasn't there a weak shot than ran along the ground right to the keeper?

You can't score if you don't take shots on goal.

The entire first half the American players with good looks at the goal would wait and look to make a perfect pass rather than letting it rip at the goal. The chances of getting a rebound were probably better than making a pass to well marked teammates. It was frustrating to watch several decent opportunities amount to nothing as the Columbian defenders did not leave Americans making runs toward goal unmarked.

Both teams had about 3 legit chances to score. US had the Dempsey shot that went inches wide, the great save on the FK, and the header that was cleared off the line. Columbia had the corner goal, weak penalty, and the crossbar shot.

All came after the match was well in hand for the Columbians. The U.S. did not challenge the Columbian goalkeeper, known for allowing rebounds, in the first half. Was there even one attempted aerial crossing pass into the penalty area from either wing? The U.S. attack just bogged down completely at the 18 yard line.

Rather than trying to wait for a near perfect opportunity, take a few chances that will cause the defenders to lose sight of the ball. Give the attacking players the opportunities to act that fraction of a second sooner because they can see where the ball is, or is going to be, before the defender can.

You're right in that we weren't direct at all, but we didn't even use our superior athleticism on the wings to send a ball in. I don't recall Johnson or Yedlin even getting a cross in all game. It was mostly aimless passing around the box. We lacked real creativity.

An unmarked Dempsey header was cleared off the line.
