For me it is a no brainer. You need a defensive presence and he is the best of all-time...

The great Paolo Maldini....

Zidane

No one controls the field like he does.

Too unpredictable. I want spine and class in the back. Maldini is a top ten player ever. Certainly the best defensive player ever.

He makes one mistake and he's "unpredictable?"

I don't fault Zidane for that one moment. Their are few better midfielders than Zidane, and to me, that's where the game is won or lost. They react on the defensive side and organize on the attack. The midfield is the pace of the game, not the backs.

Made more than that. Zidane is a top 5 player ever. But, he was always a hot head. I want my Captain to be the man the squad can trust.

I stick by my assessment with Maldini.

But nothing seriously bad, his play usually elevated his game over his temper.

I wouldn't disagree completely about Maldini, but it's hard to own the field form back there.

Terry is actually a legitimate choice here and not a total homer pick.

I'd probably say Scholes, Vieira or Makelele. I'd pick a midfielder that would shield my back four and/or pull all the strings first.

My heart is gonna make me take Zidane. However I can come up with no legit argument against Maldini, Scholes, Pirlo, etc.

Homer [ON] OFF

Ledley King

Homer ON [OFF]

My favorite captain on the planet right now is Vincent Kompany. That's the guy you want leading a defense and team.
