It's by region after the top 8. Pot 2 is CONCACAF and Asia, Pot 3 is CONMEBOL and Africa, and Pot 4 is UEFA. The balance might end up being off by one, so a European team would end up in Pot 3.

Yeah, unless there's some upsets in the final UEFA playoffs they'll almost all be groups of death.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but we are statistically the most likely team in the whole tournament to be drawn into a group of death. As the highest ranked team in our pot (Mexico would be second), we will raise the average ranking of any group we are drawn into. Also, five of the six bottom-ranked teams in the tournament are in our Pot and thus unavailable to be drawn into our group.

I honestly do wait 4 years for every World Cup. The second we lost to Ghana, I started looking forward to this World Cup 2014. Now it could all be ruined with a horrible draw.

The one consolation is whoever draws us and Japan will be pissed, bc the other six teams in our pot are noticeably worse. It's pretty unfair to us but it's the only way for them to avoid pots with three European teams

If Jordan would to somehow beat Uruguay, it would bump either Italy or the Dutch from Pot 4 to Pot 1.

Bump. The UEFA playoff draw seems to have improved the US chances of avoiding death draws.
