I was thinking back to the 2004 Euros when my dad and I ordered the entire tournament on PPV for 200 bucks. Those were the days before online streams were easy to find and the tournament hardly got a mention on any American network or website.

Twelve years later and not only are all the games on basic cable TV, but the whole tournament is being covered like a major sporting event in the US.

I also remember when the only hints that the EPL existed were on an obscure channel called Fox Sports World. It's really amazing how far soccer has come this past decade in the American media. The advancement in the past decade dwarfs the impact of the 94 World Cup.

People want immediate change but it takes time. It's really satisfying as a fan to see the steady growth of the sport here.

2008 was probably about the first time I had heard of the Euros.

Was that the first year they were televised on regular cable here? I remember watching it on ESPN that summer.

2004 Euros, Czech Republic vs Netherlands is probably my favorite game of all time. It's an absolute crime that Czech team didn't win the tournament and Greece did.

I'm not sure. I don't even think I watched much of it.

I was listening to the Euro 2004 through the BBC Sport radio feed. I remember the England/Portugal game (young Wayne "Mr. Potato Head" Rooney vs. young Cristiano Ronaldo) and how it went to PK's. I think they set age scoring records for the Euro's in that tournament.

12 years ago I sat around my dorm room with headphones on listening to a soccer match. Now I can watch any game with a group of friends. Times have changed indeed.

I remember buying Sweden v England in 2000. Both squads had some Arsenal players.

We actually get all the premier league games. The later games are all blacked out in England and is illegal to stream them in pubs.

I'll never forget being at our deer lease back in 2000 and this one baw there staying up all throughout the early hours to watch the games.

I was only 10, so I didn't realize what the frick was going on, but I remember everyone thinking he was weird as frick for that. Wish I could have slammed a brew with him.
