Looks like they don't want the chaos like what just happened

I can't believe it took this long for them to do that.

I get wanting it, but unless I'm missing something isn't this stupid?

So when Barca comes in and buys out a player at his release clause after the EPL season starts, that team is screwed?

no wonder Liverpoool is trying to not put release clauses in any players contract.

Can you add a clause that the release clause can only be in effect during his team's transfer window?

I can see the argument from both sides... not sure how I feel about it..

edit: I guess if the other leagues aren't doing it, it's kind of stupid IMO...

I like the intent, but I agree that as long as the transfer window is still open for other leagues then part of the problem still remains.

Manchester City and United were among the 5 clubs to vote against moving the transfer window (for: 14, against: 5, abstained: 1). [Express]

When this was talked about around a month ago, both clubs were rumored to be against it.

But Pep said he wanted the window to close before the season.

Very few English players have them. They're only required in Spain.

Even if the release clause is met, the player still has to come to terms with the new team.

So, if the PL clubs don't want to do business with the other leagues' clubs they can just flat out say no. Like Liverpool did to Barca.

True, but after this summer with Coutinho, VVD, Alexis, Costa, Mahrez, etc... There may be more and more players trying to negotiate one in their contracts to try and take the "power" back...

Case in point.. Emre Can.. He is willing to sign a new deal as long as it includes a buyout clause.. If we don't oblige, he leaves for free next summer...

You would have to be a dumbass club to put a release on a player after what happened with Neymar.

Also, do any English players even have buyouts at the moment? I remember Delph had one and that's how he ended up at City. But I can't think of one actual quality player with one.

So, LFC should let Can walk for free next summer?

Also, there are very few Neymar's in the world (and PSGs)... Most release clauses are set at a value the club would be happy to sell for...
