Are you talking worldwide?

Jordan made $2.6B in 2014. LINK

Adidas made €14.534B in 2014. LINK

Exactly. Nike 100% has a monopoly here in the US. They sponsor the best athletes and will soon have the rights to two of the big three sports in the USA.

Adidas would be completely under if they weren't a big soccer company in Europe. They're just as popular of a brand as Nike everywhere but here in the U.S.

Nike and Adidas revenue last time they were posted were almost the exact same

Are they completely dead now? Some of their old kits are a little too "rad" for today's fashion standards but I love almost all of them. I also had at least 4 or 5 pairs of Umbro shorts when I was a kid and they were the best

Well, you're right and wrong at the same time in my opinion. Nike is huge here, but they're huge because they've always focused on sponsoring athletes first and foremost. It's like Twitter and Beats By Dre. They knew that people want to be like celebrities so get them using the products, and people will follow. Now, they want to get leagues under their brand, and they're sacrificing individual entity as sponsors more to do so.

Adidas is starting to do the opposite. They're focusing REALLY heavily on locking up individual superstars and entities like United to get people associating them with these beloved individuals. They're about to pay Harden an insane amount to jump ship from Nike. They've already committed to what is an absurd amount of money with United. With the right moves with this tactic and the rise of the sport here, Adidas will see a big boost in popularity. They just need to be more proactive with getting themselves visible during "the moment". When you see pivotal sports moments, most of the time the Nike logo is right there front and center ready to be placed in an ad.

Sorry, was talking about here and the customer base Nike has in the states. I know adidas is just as popular worldwide as Nike is.

I'd argue that Derrick Rose's constant injuries really hurt what could have been a big push for Adidas. They had a star player that everyone liked to watch play and a lot of people considered those teams title contenders with a healthy Bulls team. They put a lot of eggs in that basket, and it almost really paid off.

This is 100% true. Also as someone who is into shoes quite a bit, Nike is really good at making their athletic shoes also go well with casual life (ie Jordans, Foamposites, Roshe) than any other company is.

Holy shite hahaha. I didn't know United was getting THAT much. That is honestly crazy, but I mean they are a top 3 club in the world popularity wise so they can demand a number like that. Adidas needs the exposure and branding more than Nike does, so I can 100% see why they would dish that much out.

You don't need much branding when you have Jordan, Ronaldo and Lebron on your marketing team.

I agree. I think that Adidas puts out some gaudy looking shoes or shoes that can't really be worn casually very often. I have some Nike indoor boots that I wear all of the time, and they're actually super comfortable too. I'm about to order either a pair of MagistaX or HypervenomX just because I love mine so much that I wanted the top versions for when I play indoor this fall.

They have Messi, Gerrard (in his prime), Beckham (in his prime) and a shitload of other superstars. Beckham in his prime was arguably the biggest superstar the planet has EVER known. Way bigger than LeBron and arguably bigger than Jordan. That's a fact.

Again, as proven on a global basis, Adidas is essentially exactly equal to Nike. You need to give it up or get out of America and take a look around. We're talking about soccer, which is a global sport, what is the point in talking about Nike's market share here in the states?

I'm going to disagree based solely on the fact that Jordan brand by itself raked in upwards of $2 bil last year as previously noted in this thread. That has to be the largest sports brand of any one individual in the world.

I'm not saying Beckham wasn't the man, he was, but what Nike did with Jordan and his branding goes across multiple sports, IE jordan cleats in baseball and football along with his basketball apparel is nothing short of genius and the best branding of any athlete of all time.

And to say any of those guys are any bigger than Lebron/Jordan is a joke. Those guys are know just as well around the world as any soccer star. But yes, I'll agree that soccer knowledge does stretch wider than basketball knowledge. I doubt the average sports fan in Croatia knows the average NBA/NFL player is compared to an average soccer player in a major soccer league.

ETA: I mean Jordan brand made more than a seventh of Adidas total profits in 2014. That's nothing short of incredible for a brand of one player that hasn't played professionally in like a decade.

alot of that can be equated to the cult following of sneaker heads the last 10 years. Especially Jordan fans.

you really need to remove Nike's dick from your mouth.

I mean I'm a big time sneaker person so that's not going to happen any time soon haha.

Nike is the GOAT in the shoe game and always will be, everything else is trash. Notice Yeezy's suck dick now after Adidas butchered them. Even the soccer cleats by Nike are better looking by a mile.

I think making more than a billion dollars makes you not really a brand with a cult following lol. That's mainstream.

Obviously though you were right SCH, Adidas shelled out a dick load of money to sponsor United, way more than I thought, and I was wrong about that. I'll admit it.

i want what you are smoking

The staple of the best soccer cleat is the Adidas predator looks and performance wise.

Nike makes some good ones but its not always about looks.

I personally like Nike more when it comes to cleats of all kinds but it's obviously personal preference.

Personally, I hate Nike cleats. I have yet to have comfortable pair from them. However, I do have some Nike running shoes that I love.
