Pretty cool breakdown.
LINK

The Manc deal is absurd. Can't wait for McCraigBro's insight on Nike vs Adidas in soccer.

Pretty amazing how big Chelsea's global brand has become in only about 15 years.

City is a small club when it comes down to it

Nike only sponsors one team in the whole league.

That's pretty wild in itself. Liverpool's sponsor deal is really weak notch.

Our marketing is league's behind Mancs and even Chelsea.

Considering Standard Chartered holds the majority of the Gilette and Hicks debt, that number doesn't convey the entire advantage enjoyed by Liverpool by SC being our main sponsor.

thats what makes his Nike rant even more dumb

surely the best company would be making kits for lots of teams in the best and most marketable league.

Well Adidas has to go all out with soccer. They have lost some massive US Colleges in recent years (ND, Mich, and TENN) and they quickly becoming nonexistent in basketball. They just lost the jersey deal they had with the NBA.

It still blows my mind every time I see the numbers for the Adidas deal with United. I feel like we need to exploit that to get a Ronaldo/Messi signing just because we can do it with those numbers from the deal. Front-load that shite, and let's become OP again.

Not really. Nike became king and has remained king here.

I was listening to Sonny Vacarro (legendary shoe executive, had 30 for 30 about him) a few weeks ago and he was talking about how if it were not for some of their soccer deals Adidas would be dead in the water. They are basically dead here in the states.

Those NFL,NHL and NBA deals always seem to change, it would be cool if NFL teams could pick the company who made their jerseys like they did 15 years ago or so.

College football is a different story though

Exactly. Nike 100% has a monopoly here in the US. They sponsor the best athletes and will soon have the rights to two of the big three sports in the USA.

Adidas would be completely under if they weren't a big soccer company in Europe. They're just as popular of a brand as Nike everywhere but here in the U.S.

ETA: I'm pretty sure Jordan brand by itself makes more money in a year than Adidas does.

It's pumping a ton of Javascript out in terms of libraries. From a web design perspective, I'm absolutely in love with it. Making a site like that look great while still responsive and mobile friendly isn't easy at all if you don't do it right, and I say that having done some pretty trick OS work. I respect the hell out of good web developers who do stuff like this because for all of my experience and skills as a Software Engineer, web design is my weakest area. You have to have the eye for it, and I think what makes me skilled with the hard stuff takes away all of the skills necessary to really make things look good. Props to ESPN for really pushing stuff like this out in terms of presentation.

That said, they are, again, pumping a lot of JS out in execution. Just skimming, I noticed Skrollr being used, which is a library to make parallax scrolling work, and I don't even need to look further to tell you that's one of a bunch of JS libraries in the mix. Normally, this isn't an issue because JS works on pretty much every modern browser, and it gets faster every day, which explains the sudden jump in the quality and functionality on a lot of sites. The problem is that it requires power, and mobile device battery life is precious. So, mobile devices really limit Javascript execution as much as possible, including while doing things like scrolling. iOS actually completely tries to stop it, which is a problem on a site using a JS library for prettier scrolling. So, Skrollr actually disables scrolling completely and uses workarounds to mimic it. So, that alone would create an issue for some people on mobile devices along with a plethora of compatibility issues and bugs.

This has nothing to do with the article obviously. I just enjoy these things a lot, and I figured it'd at least be semi-interesting and informational to explain why you probably had some problems. Basically, it's not you or your phone. It's bad software design.

On the overall ranking, was QPR 7th last year?

Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle get more from their sponsors than Everton . Also, over half the league has undisclosed jersey deals.
