Pick Your Ideal Gold Cup Squad

Bruce said when he took the job that if we got back on track in the Hex then we could afford to use this Gold Cup for a bit of experimentation. The question is though how much new/newish blood do you want to break in to the team?
Was listening to the Total Soccer Show today with Matt Doyle and he was mentioning that he thinks Bruce wants to shrink the player pool since there is a year left until Russia and he wants to start whittling his choices down.
Here's the 40-man provisional roster that was released last week, pick your 23 and 3 alternates that can join the team after the group stages.
For me, I kind of hope we go really experimental just to see if we have anybody who will step up and become a real part of this cycle.
Add Omar, Bedoya and maybe Pulisic if he's up to it for the knockout round.

Would love to see acosta play a big role.
Would like see Miazga get some time.
For a while joe corona was maybe the most frustrating player in the pool. I had written him off but id like to see if he has put it together in the past few years.

I'd like to see Hedges get significant time. too consistently good for Dallas not to

Forgive my ignorance here but why tf hasn't miazga gotten more playing time? I was actually at the chelsea game he came into and he looked extremely quick and sound

He played 35 games this season.

Agreed...but I think that's a foregone conclusion now that he will. He started and played 90 minutes against Mexico in Azteca...he will be a mainstay for any big tournament for the next 10+ years

Obviously I meant for the usmnt

Because he's not better than the players we are currently using.

Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas)
Must cap tie him - though maybe just by switching he's 100% cap tied even if we dont' play him?
I'd like a mix of young and experience....so...
Gonzalez, Bendik and Howard (Howard to start 1 of the first round games but mainly there for support)
Besler, Garza, Gonzalez, Miazga, Villafana, Zusi, Birnbaum, Lichaj
Arriola, Bradley, Bedoya, Acosta, Pulisic (though I might want him to rest), Trapp, Zardes, McCarty
Dwyer, Morris, Agudelo, Dempsey

Any reason you'd want to leave off Saief? He's only 23 and has 76 appearances for Gent including Champions league and Europa league. Tricky left footed attacking midfielder that could offer some creativity in the middle

Rather have him than Zardes.

Is Gooch still injured? Would be nice to give him some minutes. Hyndman would be another good youngster to bring in, but I'm not sure he will be fit by then.

No, that's probably a good idea to include him. I was thinking Zardes for some more speed and his familiarity with Arena, but if you're going to look at Saief, this would be a good time.

Id rather experiment with forwards and the back line. Let the midfield continue to work together(Nagne, Acosta, Pulisic, Bradley).
Oh and try out the other goalies. We know what Guzan and Howard can do, but they can only play so long.

Those 2 guys might be best served getting a preseason in with their clubs rather than playing in the Gold Cup

Same with Pulisic and Guzan. Would say the same with Brooks, but I don't think he's on the 40 man list.

GK - Gonzalez, Guzan, either Hamid or Johnson
LB - Garza, Villafana
CB - Hedges, Miazga, Birnbaum
RB - Lichaj
D - Zusi, Spector (Zusi can play both outside backs and all midfield spots. Not well - but he can play there. Spector can play all four back line spots.)
LM - Saief, Zardes
CM - Acosta, Corona, Roldan, Trapp
RM - Arriola, McNamara
FW - Jozy, Morris, Dwyer, Sapong
Call-ins:
Howard, AFTER Gonzalez gets cap tied vs. Martinique
Bradley
Dempsey or Pulisic
If you make Bradley part of the initial 23 (or let Guzan handle the entire GC as the #1), you can call in Omar.
You could leave Sapong or Morris home, and use Zardes as your 4th FW as well and call in both Dempsey and Pulisic.

I don't think he plays any part in this because he's joining a new team in the middle of its season.

Already cap-tied if the reports of filing the one-time switch are true.

Surely they're going to play him in GC if he files the paperwork. That'd be pretty scummy of Bruce.
