Jupp was pussyfooting around with regards to whether or not he would be retiring. A club like Bayern is not going to wait until the end of the year for an answer so they answered for him. If they had not gotten confirmation from Pep, they would have maybe waited but they weren't going to wait and miss out on Pep because Jupp was being indecisive.

And same reason they may not have actually offered Pep the one year deal he was "considering" because of the timing with Ancelloti being available.

If Pep stayed one more year, there may have been no appealing coaches available (just like there were no appealing center backs available in this transfer window, so we sat idle despite Boateng/Martinez injuries)

Despite Heynckes winning the treble, Pep was still too good to pass up. Under he current circumstances (and with Pep never committing anywhere long term), Bayern had to pounce on Ancelloti.

at what point do you feel like city would be worthy of a coach such as pep?

When they get some history.

This next 3 years is champions league win or bust for City.

Maybe make it past the round of 16 or manage to fill your stadium that isn't even that large.

Not all of us chose our teams based on the first FIFA game we bought in 2010....

they have history. not all (or most) of it good. just because it doesn't meet your standards, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

city are nearly unrivaled in facilities and resources. if i'm the best coach in the world, i'm going to the team that provides the path of least resistance to achieving my goals. that is unquestionably city.

so he shouldn't coach at city because they haven't made it past the round of 16 in the champions league and they don't fill their stadium? what a really odd standard. if he's half the coach he's made out to be, both of those problems are fixable.

Over ManU, Barca, Madrid, Bayern and even Chelsea?

GTFO.

Not really.

He should be coaching at an iconic club like he has in the past.

City is not and will never be that.

every club has history, but when people talk about clubs history is about success and trophies

Winning the Champions League or bust the next three years

Facilities at that level don't mean much for the first team.

Resources of course City is almost unmatched b/c they have a sugar daddy.

I have to admit, of all the new money clubs, City seem to have had a clear vision after the initial outlay of cash... from the facilities, to management and now Pep

I just think they have been looking long term in building the club and have done a good job.

The results and support will follow IMO..

It is a shame for MP, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. He'll get a good job, soon.. I would think.

and it has to start somewhere. that pep should exclude himself from coaching at city because the doesn't have a lengthy resume is fricking idiotic.

agree.

results probably.

support i doubt it, especially not in England.

Some of it was all for show bc their hand was forced. Also lots of rumblings the last few years about them using City as a foothold into UK property development which lots of Arabs are doing.

Either way everything looks nice, but does it have any real substance in the long run.

City have amazing facilities but for first teams its almost all the same. The EPL facilities across the board all look amazing.

City are the front runner right now but that can change.

Now youth academy is a different thing no one is touch that. But thats probably all for show. Bc id rather have good coaches at developing players than some fancy buildings.

lol based on what? He's done this before to a more successful manager and his teams are Barcelona were as disgraceful as they were good.

I meant more so, to be able to have a successful club even if the manager leaves.. to be in a position to get another top manager. I think in the modern game, the managers that spend long periods of time at a club will be few and far between...

everyone loves a winner.. but I agree, the foundation of a strong fan base will take the most time..

Again, just an outsiders perspective... I don't follow it as close as others..
