He planned that the whole time right? Faked the whole back line out right there

Glen Johnson might be the worst player of all time

Marko looks good. Can with flashes. Raheem picked up where he left off. So far I'm happy.

Some sloppiness with controlling the ball and one touch passing in buildup. Defense has looked pretty good other than being caught in possession a couple times. I can definitely see where Lallana would fit with this team to help control the ball and maintain possession a little more further up.

And we were missing Coutinho too to help control the tempo and link the midfield with attack.

shite, I don't know what the hell our first XI is gonna look like.

If Coates didn't play with lead boots, he'd be a pretty damn good center half. I know he's not Brendan's first choice, but he's looked good this preseason and I think he could still fight for a place on the team. 4th CB?

Assuming Agger leaves, I guess so. If not I can't see him staying. I'm really interested to see what our first choice pairing will be.

I really like Can, I think he is going to be a rock for us and Marko is going to fit our system perfectly.

Don't watch to many PL games but I will have to say I am going to be rooting for you fellas because the starting XI y'all have has the potential to win the league this year imo and I hope y'all do! OUTSTANDING TEAM!

All in all not a bad evening. Had great seats, right on the end line..I could have thrown a beer and hit the player taking the corner. No flares, but Olympiakos did have a group of semi ultras behind a goal. Lots of chanting drunk greeks. At the end of the game they unfurled a Kosovo is Serbia banner that had me puzzled. Skrtel was on his game. Johnson sucked donkeys as usual. Markovic has some set of wheels and I think will be a nice addition. Can looks to be a stabilizer in the midfield. Lambert meh wasnt on long enough to really judge, but pacey he isnt. Oh well enough rambling. I had a blast. Weather was perfect.

So I was thinking the other day that I bet we'd never see a starting line-up with Can, Henderson and Gerrard as the midfield three as I didn't think it would be enough offense. But I guess we will as Cou can't start every match, Lucas maybe headed elsewhere, and Lallana may be used on the wing.

One thought though is that Can would be an excellent defensive replacement for Cou if we were up by a goal in the 65 minute.

A couple of times yesterday in the first half I saw our CBS get pulled 20 yards apart while they had the ball on our side of the field. Both times it was Toure tracking a guy wide left and Skrtel not really coming far enough into the window. Once Olyp even played the ball into the space for a shot creation which ended up being blocked.

I don't know if that was lack of communication or awareness between those two, but that stuff shouldn't happen.

Markovic looked dangerous. I'm not saying he's Robben, but he had a few instances where he kept his pace while that ball really stuck to his foot and it reminded me a bit of the way Robben can do that. Hopefully he can develop some of that talent further. I don't know about his pressing awareness, but his speed should cause problems.

Glen Johnson, just can't say enough bad things. He's just so frustrating to watch and a shell of his former self - which is bad because usually when that happens its the physical skills which are diminishing, but I think his physical tools still look pretty good. Hope we don't resign him.

Raheem's hair was in midseason form.

I thought Sturridge failed to get into the game for basically the final 35 minutes of the first half.

Will be interesting to see next game - we played 7 or 8 guys that will be in our first choice line-up and I don't think City played more than 3 or 4. Obviously I think Rodgers values some of these games for the Champions league caliber of the opponent.

Had a great time yesterday! Soldier Field is pretty nice... And the weather was awesome

Loved our starting lineup and the third kit looked great in action.. I was really glad to see Can and Markovic play and thought they did fine... Only real disappointment was Johnson's play... I really hope he gets his head out of his arse, because he still has the physical tools to play at a high level... We need him to be at least the "average Glen capable of something brilliant" from a couple of years ago... Toure had some shaky moments too..

Happy to see Lovren and pumped to see him play... Assuming we sell Agger and Ilori goes out on loan... I could live with Lovren, Skrtel, Sakho, Toure and Coates ( though the latter two may be gone too)

Has anyone seen or heard anything regarding Manquillo? It is become quite clear that our biggest weakness at the moment is at right back.

I might be the only one who's not totally down on Johnson. Could he be upgraded? Absolutely. But I think he could be serviceable while we address other areas.

Unless we had truly world class full backs, it would be hard to not have some frick ups in this system it seems. Sometimes they're just the last outlet it seems like to push the ball wide when our CB's or wings are getting caught in possession and they get closed down too quick and are caught in possession.

But yes Glen still has his mind blowing poor decision making and poor crosses, although I didn't think that was too bad yesterday. He defended ok too, the big things are he was just caught in possession a couple times I think.

this shite worries me... Suarez was able to set pace for us going forward, and at the least that antagonized Sturridge to keep interested, rather than getting lazy....

we need to find that one guy that will, even if it doesn't result in a ton of made conversions, attack with reckless abandon...
