For a man who led the US to it's best World Cup finish in modern history, saw to the rise of US Soccer and is currently back righting the ship.... what were the factors that led to the USMNT parting ways in 2006?

I know very well the USA underwhelmed in Germany that year, but were there any other reasons surrounding his firing?

I don't remember the official reasons, but it felt like we had stagnated. Was probably time for new blood.

He also made some very puzzling decisions in the 2006 World Cup.

Yea the whole 2006 WC situation indicated everything was stuck in neutral. It was the right move to part ways.

The 2010 and 2014 world cups were incredibly frustrating to watch as a fan. Our offense was stagnant and Bradley was really off his game. That being said, 2006 was probably even worse. I remember being so angry at the style of play and lack of enthusiasm of our team.

Got our asses kicked by the Czechs, somehow drew Italy, lost the must-win against Ghana. We were actually the top-ranked team in the group because our FIFA ranking had been inflated by success from the previous year. Pretty sure we won the 2005 Gold Cup, without checking, so that probably helped our ranking a lot.

As badly as we played in Germany, it was pretty cool to draw the eventual winners. Just a lot of older and slower players (who all played well in 2002) with not enough good youth to compensate yet. Donovan didn't play very well.

It was clearly time for a change. We were stagnating. Bruce is still the best American manager ever, and helping us qualify for Russia will further cement his legacy.

things had gotten stale

i think he's kind of an a-hole and difficult to work with and had a real ego at the time

etc etc

national team managers should be around for a cycle, MAYBE 2 and depart

The locker room was also a venomous environment around 2006.

Against the ageless Dely-Valdez brothers.

Bruce has said that cycle peaked in 2005 and we weren't as good in 2006.

That Czech team didn't even make it out of the group. Massive underachievers. Should have been in the final of Euro 2004 too.

Beyond what has already been said, it's rare to for international teams to keep a coach more than 2 cycles.

Why even include "probably"?

In what ways could it be argued that it wasn't worse?
