Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Atlanta getting a MLS team? I would love for a MLS team to come to Birmingham and create an instant rivalry. Maybe add a franchise in Memphis/Nashville and one of the Carolina states? Not sure how Louisianans feel about soccer, would y'all support?

I won't profess to be a soccer/futbol fan but if a team came to my state I would support. Would others be excited to have a franchise in their city?

ATL, Miami, and Orlando are all suppose to be getting MLS teams. Minnesoata and LA are also getting expansion teams.

I would like to see one in NOLA. I went to a couple of games in KC and they were fun. MLS is like minor league baseball, fun to see in person but boring to watch on tv.

When the dome was a possibility so was MLS expansion to birmingham. now they're considering developing an area a bit north of town that could have the necessary facilities, but I think it needs to be by regions park, or over the mountain in the suburbs. (this all assumes MLS wants to do another round of expansion in the future)

I think a team would do fine (or at least not collapse) just about anywhere. I think the MLS has a weird structure in relation to expenses and profits though.

Atlanta is getting a MLS team, but it's unlikely another team will come to the South outside of Miami.

Los Angeles is getting another team and Minnesota United will also be joining MLS before someone else.

Orlando is in the middle of their first season. Doing alright:

MLS would not be supported in NOLA.

Mobile or Birmingham would totally support any professional team that would come/start up there. I know that the AAA Mobile Bay Bears are very much supported on the gulf coast as are the AAA Biloxi shuckers. Way better support for these teams than NOLA supports the 20 year old Zephyr franchise.

Didn't know they were considering something other than expanding the BJCC? With the entertainment district and all of the apartments coming downtown I've assumed it was only a matter of time before they would announce the Dome project

I think having MLS during the CFB offseason would add buzz throughout the state, especially with the expanding Hispanic population? We're unlikely to ever get a pro football or basketball team so MLS may be our last chance to break into pro sports

I would love for Birmingham to get a team, but Miami, Nashville, and probably a city in the Carolinas are higher on the league's list (and that's just the southeast).

Until then, I'll just be going to a few games a year in ATL.

Birmingham getting an MLS team? Not gonna happen. You still have San Antonio, Sacramento, St. Louis, Nashville, and Charlotte/Raleigh before Bham comes into any consideration.

Agreed.

MLS is an awful product.

Their schedule is a disaster- out of line with the European leagues. When there is a World Cup going on and all the leagues are on their break, MLS is playing.

So many things need to be done to fix this broken league, but the first thing is a change to a Fall-to-Spring schedule.

It would never survive because it would be competing head to head with the NFL for most of its season.

Isn't Nashville a pretty big soccer town?

Seems like they'd be next on the list. Atlanta has a solid buzz, hope it goes well.

Yep, the NFL and CFB would destroy their attendance from October-december and ppl are not going to watch outdoor soccer from jan-march. All of the stadiums are outside (except for BC) and there are alot in the norht and canada. MLS has had more success than anyother American soccer league and what it is doing is working. They will never be able to compete with Premier league and other leagues so they should stick to what they are doing because their strategy of 20-30K soccer specific stadium and playing april to october is working.

FC Dallas does pretty well. They have their own stadium and smartly built it in Frisco... soccer mom central.

So, we'll relocate Chicago, Toronto, Philly, DC, Columbus, Salt Lake, Colorado and the two New York franchises. Where should we put them?

Or are you suggesting that people will sit in this for two hours instead of in their houses watching NFL/NBA/NHL?
