MLS seems to think so.

SportsGuyNOLA isn't the only one who says that believe it or not...

NOLA would support MLS. just build a badass stadium in the right spot and make it part of a neighborhood... i'd want to build it in Bywater at the corner of Poland Av. and Dauphine where the river meets the Industrial Canal

10th in attendance in NFL LINK

Middle of the pack in NBA LINK

Middle of the pack in MLB LINK

Attendance was terrible for hockey, but that was mostly because the owners were terrible.

Bulldoze Old Charity and the old VA (once it moves across the street) and boom! - ready-made spot for a soccer stadium, right next to the Dome and SKC.

no way in hell that ever happens. That doesn't fit that neighborhood at all and people would go apeshit. Also where are they gonna park?

Tear down/renovate Tad Gormley and you have a phenomenal spot. Or place it somewhere along the river east of the Convention Center. If you wanna spur development, put in in the East

Outside of Atlanta I can't see the Deep South supporting a MLS team. Places like Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, and Nashville and Charlotte can do it, but I just have a feeling that the AL, MS, LA, and SC won't support soccer as much as other Southern states.

yeah BUT...

the only city in one of those states that might ever get MLS is NOLA, and we're not the small-town hicks that wouldn't support MLS

Why do people keep saying this.

You probably don't know this, but until last year there was an MLS franchise called Chivas USA. It was an offshoot of the popular Mexican club Chivas de Guadelajara and it was located in Los Angeles. Chivas de Guadelejara is arguably the biggest/most popular Mexican club. Yes that's right. An MLS team located in Southern California with ties to the most popular Mexican soccer team with basically the same unis and a majority Mexican roster. AND IT FLOPPED SO BAD that MLS was forced to pull the plug.

Orlando is doing really well. Think it might have to do with the number of Hispanic folks in and around central Florida. That might be an ignorant statement though, I'm not sure.

I think it is. No offense. I think at this point it's well proven that a hispanic population has little to do with attendance of MLS games. Plus, once you start getting towards Orlando and further south, Cubans, Dominicans and Haitians start making up larger portions of the hispanic population and they don't like soccer anymore than the average FL redneck (probably even less).

I see. Just a thought a had. I can't wait for the stadium to be built. I think the city is being difficult though...? Heard that the team was going to put up 40mil and the city would STILL own the rights to it. Know anything about that?

And dammit why do their colors have to be SO purple? This is my chance to get into soccer, and I'm gonna take it. But damn if I hate their colors #personalproblems

I like the colors. I don't necessarily like purple but it's unique and stands out.

Agreed. I mentioned Tampa Bay and Miami earlier in the thread. They were relying on Hispanic supporters and the MLS had to shut them down fairly quickly.

That's the frustrating thing about the location of the Chicago Fire's stadium. The argument for Bridgeview was that the local Hispanic and Polish populations would help fill the stadium. The ignorance of this was that anyone who paid attention to Fire games at Soldier Field knew the crowd was mostly middle-class white people. Many of the regular fans today take drunk buses from bars in the city or are families from other suburbs.

Is it because they're loyal to their "home" teams? Meaning who ever they rooted for growing up and/or before they came to the US?

I noticed place like Buffalo Wild Wing here in Birmingham playing soccer games during the day and that there would a number of Hispanics watching the game. This is what lead me to think they would support a league here.

Don't know about that. As pointed out before, Miami and Chivas flopped. All the hispanics i know don't care for MLS.
