Stealing the words of a podcaster. But looking back to Alex Lalas words shortly after the Reyna/GGG thing came out officially Lalas went from being a one cycle guy to GGG need another chance because of the Reyna's. Breaking the news less than 10 minutes before the kickoff of a semi final game of a tournament against your biggest rival. Basically telling the players to get in line and say they are ok with it. So they could give these little press releases of the players saying ok. This was decided long ago and we went through a sham coaching search. We are a shite show.

I have it on good authority the USSF turned their attention to Gregg after Patrick Viera turned them down earlier last week. They did have a lot of big names on their list, but a lot of them didn't give them the time of day.

Obviously, the narrative from the USMNT now is that Gregg was always the first choice because they don't want it to seem like they struck out everywhere else, but if that were the case, they wouldn't have waited until after the club season to announce it. Gregg and Crocker talked for the first time like 2 weeks ago. Gregg was like the 6th or 7th choice and it sucks, but I think he's the better option of what was left (Jesse and a bunch of MLS coaches).

So only three Americans have ever gotten a team out of a group at a World Cup—Bruce, Bob, and GGG! Not saying Marsch or Caleb Porter didn’t deserve a shot to join that group, but maybe you go with the devil you know.

If we were going MLS route again I wouldve preferred Curtain. He's done more with less there and has developed the young talent well. Maybe he'll be an option after 26

There are lots of guys a cycle or two out—Cherundolo, Ramos, etc. I just think there was no one else right now. Maybe if we take our top group to the Copa and get schooled we’ll readdress.

I just don’t see how our options are so poor?

Is it having to work with USSF that is turning a lot of coaches away.

I’ve seen big names in the coaching world express wanting to coach US.

We are hosting a WC.

We have some very talented players.

Someone explain to me what I am missing.

How many of them have international experience? I would love Zidane, but he has less experience than Jurgen did when he got the job.

We have some very talented players compared to what we have in the past, but we still don't have close to the depth and infrastructure that all the big teams have.

And yeah, you've heard Pep and Jose "express interest" about coaching the USMNT in the past, but that was only when they were pointedly asked the question by an American reporter, so of course they are going to give a diplomatic answer, and I'm sure (at least in the case of Pep) that is something he has considered since he does have a summer home in the states, but it's just not worth it for him right now to take a paycut and have significantly less resources to work with.

Getting out of the group isn’t the goal. GGG isn’t tactically good enough to make a run. We should have given anyone else a chance 4 years out. If GGG is coaching in 26 then we are fricked.

Anyone. Given someone the job who isn’t good enough is some small arse bullshite. Try and fail again if you have too. Hell I’d take BJ over GGG based on 1 game.

This is Georgia and Mark Richt. He isn’t doing anything to lose the job. He isn’t awful. Maybe he will get over the hump one day…

Look what happened after he left.

Personally, I hate the hire. But now that we’re stuck with it, I’m just trying to understand it. Really, who else was there? I haven’t seen or heard about any of the “big names” come out in the last day or two bitching about not getting the job.

You want to take a guy who consulted with Gregg on this roster selection and employed his tactics?

The formation may have been the same but the tactics were miles better than how GGG set us up in the WC. We were much more in the front foot and pushing the ball.

Tactically, we played this past match against Mexico the EXACT same way we played Mexico when we Dos A Cero'd them in World Cup Qualifying in Cincy.

I don’t know if you know GGG personally but you are blinded in this whole situation.

Pretty sure you have it the other way around there, chief.

BJ even said as much post match that they attacked the same they did in 2021 and if you look at the metrics of those two matches, you'll see that too.
