I think it's because Coutinho gets all bashed and tired up by the 60th minute and then we lose that cutting edge in the MF. And we don't have anyone to fill in.

I think Sakho had problems communicating with the rest of the back four.

What we need is to bring Carra back as a consultant Defensive coach.

I don't know. It looks like we actively drop our back line deeper and Gerrard and Lucas even tend to both lie deeper once we have a lead.

Moses' positioning is sooooo bad

How so? Offensively he played wide and defensively he sat just right. Everyone at Finns thought he was brilliant (other than the last 20 - as was everyone). Just curious.

He improved a bit in the second half, but in the first he was struggling to play off of Sturridge. He clogged the middle a couple times when he floated into Sturride/Coutinho' areas. There was one play where he completely fricked a goal scoring opportunity by bringing his defender right to Sturridge.

Overall he did okay. Certainly better than Aspas. He made some fantastic forward runs, but clearly isn't comfortable providing the final ball.

Finished watching the game late last night.

A few observations -

Sakho - have never really watched him before. He did some nice things, but his foot speed seems a bit slow (even if he's fast overall). Seemed to not react to quickly to a few things (twice on Shelvey's goal). But the talent is there. How the heck are we going to get him on the field with Agger? Not sure either could play RCB. So unless we go three CBs on the field?

Moses - pleasently surprised with his first game. I thought he was poor positionally at times on offense, and his touch needs work, but did a good job on defense. Obviously scoring the goal was a good thing too.

Aspas - would have been perfect for him to score that goal at the very end. Didn't even really get a shot off which is disappointing. He's taking time to adjust to the EPL. There are some obvious talents there, but I fear he and Coutinho shouldn't be on the field at the same time as both are getting pushed around a lot this season.

Sturridge needs to put that header away. Thats as easy of a chance as anyone could hope for.

Worst game by Lucas and Stevie G in quite awhile, imo. Both looked out of position and lunging at things quite a bit.

I don't understand this defensive mentality we have had every single second half this year. We don't even keep possession like we do in the first half. We don't have the guys (currently - Suarez's return will help) to be excellent at counterattacking. We are controlling a game in the first half through possession. Why change it so drastically? Of course, we've been winning with this, but how long can it keep up?

Overall, even though I'm a little disappointed, a point at the stadium on a team in the top 8 - I'll take it.

I agree with most of this, although it seems like Sakho is deceptively solid with his feet. There were a couple of times where I almost had a heart attack when he had the ball in the back, but he cooly dribbled a guy or two and kept possession rather than launching it straight up field. There are no problems with that, provided he doesn't frick up.

I thought he looked really good for the most part. The directness and strength he showed out wide was excellent, even though his touch did get away from him at times. Overall I like what I saw from him.

Aspas

This was the kind of game where I thought Aspas should have stayed on the bench. He was getting bullied out there and played closer to Danny than to the DMs, which opened up a huge gap in the middle and killed our build-up play in the second half. He definitely needs time to adjust but I think he'll come along eventually.

He absolutely should have put that away. I was already celebrating before he even headed it, that's how easy of a chance I thought it was.

Agreed, they looked awful out there, especially Stevie. He was looking drained. Really disappointing performance from those two

I also agree that we seem to go into super defensive mode in the second half of every game for whatever reason. It's like when our opponents make their early second half push, we just let them, rather than trying to push back and it turns into a game of Bob Ball

Damn that sucks about Cou.

I feel like we are never going to have our first choice line-up on the field.

I don't think we have anyone that can really replicate what Cou does. And without suarez, we're really hurting for some creativity and shot creation.

Aspas must step up this week.

This Cou injury makes me wonder why we weren't hot and heavy on CE earlier. They ended up with him at 11 mil with no CL.
Seems like that should have been a no brainer.

Imo cou doesn't get hurt if he doesn't jump and flail around in the air
its still a foul it just makes me mad when they make a scene out of it

That gif looked a lot like a dive to me. Probably a foul, but there's no way he should've done that jump that resulted in his injury.

it was an unfortunate incident. Williams won the ball but definitely stuck in for a little love tap to the groinal region. the flail probably didn't help considering it was a shoulder injury.

I would be OK seeing Aspas this weekend, but I really want to run Alberto this weekend.

I'd love to see Alberto also. He showed a lot of promise in that holding position during preseason. We'd have to push Gerrard up though.

I know Bleacher Report is frowned on, but I thought this write-up on Sakho's first match was pretty informative.
