70k a week is fricking ludicrous for a player like Gylfi.
I know. That's more than Suarez who is an established world class player. If he would have come and proven his worth, then LFC would up his contract. They weren't about to get stuck with another Joe Cole/Aquilani type deal.

Exactly. I would have loved the kid, but the right financial decision was made. Lets drop 70k where it can be put to better use.

It's amazing How Suarez is more prolific and important to Uruguay, than Cavani...
I'm wondering about an interchangeable front 3 of Luis, Dempsey and Borini... and I'm loving a midfield trio of Lucas, Stevie and Aqua...
Hopefully the scoring pressure taken off of him, will allow that goal scoring form to flourish... The guy scored 49 in one season for Ajax?

He certainly can finish, but he needs another technically gifted player to play off of. His little flick on's and cheeky runs can only be picked up by those players who weren't raised in the traditional English game.
Revamping our entire squad into a mini English national team handcuffed him. So did playing a 5 man midfield. Suarez was always most lethal when Kenny gave him help up top. I think when KK took over he played 3 attacking players? I remember him doing it against United and Chelsea and we got results. Was it a 4-3-3? Or a 3-4-3? I can't remember.

We had this discussion towards the end of last season. Apparently they don't use keepers in Holland and Suarez, despite scoring at will at his previous club and for Uruguay is not a good finisher on English soil where the keepers are Gods and the posts actively deflect his shots.

No matter what the reason, he has been a poor goal scorer in the EPL so far. Hopefully it's just a coincidence. Take a look at his end of the season numbers:
10% chance conversion - second worst in the PL
232 minutes per goal
Hit the woodwork 8 times
38% of his shots on target (that weren't goals) were saved low and center
Like I said, hopefully it was just an off year. The guy scored at will for Ajaz and does the same for Uruguay. He either had an off year in the EPL, or the competition is forcing him to take higher contested shots.

Reminds me of Maxi. God please don't turn into Maxi, Luis.

I'm chalking his abysmal stats in England last year up to the complete shite show that was our offensive attack for most of the season. When Suarez was alone up top, before Big Andy came on towards the end of the season, we either did one of two things. Long balled it and hoped Suarez could get behind the last defender, knock down the ball, and then beat his man and/or the keeper 2 on 1...or if we actually mounted an attack the 5 mids we always seemed to have on the pitch would pass it to Luis and then stand and watch as he tried to dribble through 4 defenders in the box. I guarantee you will see better results this year from a true pass and move approach.

I really don't know if I agree with you. As far as our final table position, yes we were a shite show. Yes the squad did struggle for long stretches of the season and yes Suarez and Carroll weren't always put in the best positions to score. But our offense still created almost 500 chances.
That tells me that our strikers weren't adequately performing their main role: putting the ball in the back of the net.
Look how Liverpool stack up on chance completion %:
9% - Liverpool
16% - City
17% - United
13% - Chelsea
14% - Arsenal
Now, if we would have converted say 5% more of our chances, that gives us an extra 25 goals on the season.
But the bigger problem isn't chances converted, IMO. It's failing to even put the chances on target. Take a look how we stack up at putting our shots on target:
50% - Liverpool
62% - City
64% - United
58% - Chelsea
62% - Arsenal
*And this is chance conversion percentage. Not shot conversion percentage which I didn't even have the heart to do the math.
That is a glaring drop off. I wish I had the numbers to see what % of PL goals comes off of rebounds and such. Putting the shot on target is what it's all about. You at least give your team a chance to score when you do so, which is something our squad really struggled with.
Like I said, I think last season was the exception and not the rule for Suarez and Carroll. And yes, the team did have a terrible season and did struggle at times. But I still think both strikers need to be held accountable for their poor production when it comes to their main role in the squad.
Suarez also finished last in the league in clear cut chances converted. These are literally one v one opportunities against the keeper. Here are the stats:
26% - Suarez
45% - RVP
59% - Rooney
48% - Aguero
56% - Ba
82% - Lampard
36% - Torres
In terms of flat out chance conversion:
10% - Suarez
5% - Carroll
21% - RVP
23% - Rooney
23% - Aguero
21% - Ba
26% - Lampard
13% - Torres

I remember reading at one point, an article explaining Suarez's poor conversion rate. The writer proposed that it had less to do with his ability to shoot, and more to do with the lack of quality opportunities.
Posted on 7/12/12 at 9:56 pm to Meursault
Clear cut chances (quality opportunities):
27 - Suarez
42 - RVP
29 - Rooney
27 - Aguero
16 - Ba
11 - Lampard
11 - Torres
Not sure the rest of those guys' starts, but Suarez missed 9 games and is still on par with most of those guys in terms of CCC opportunities.

Also, any suggestions for an article ya'll would like to see? I finished my one for this weekend, but need to pick a new one for next week. Just curious if ya'll are interested in anything in particular.

1)Why does Andy Carroll celebrate before he scores?
2)Was Martin Skrtel's grand pappy convicted of War Crimes?
3)Why does Charlie Adam suck?
4)Por Que, Negro?
That's all I have off the top of my head. I'll add more as needed.

5) Will Liverpool actually string 5 passes together under BR's new scheme?

I'm not saying I wouldn't troll the frick out of your 3 fan Chelsea thread if we had your luck last season, but I would probably spend my time looking back over my club's illustrious history and....oh wait, you bought your silverware. No actually, goal line technology was a year late at Wembley and Schweinsteiger gift wrapped your only European plea for glory. Wave a plastic flag and sing like you know the song. John Terry loves the blacks.

Multiple sources saying Borini was at Melwood for a physical exam. Will soon be announced. As soon as it is I will update the OP.
