Pepe Reina - Didnt need him to do too much today, but came up huge when he had to (against Bale)

What a save. He really is one of the best in the world.

quote:

Agger and Skrtel really are top class. One of the best CB pairings in the EPL (unfortunately King and Dawson matched them today)

Other than the Bolton game, those two have almost made zero mistakes up to this point. Our defense is so good, it really is ridiculous.

quote:

Glen Johnson had a great game. He attacked well (besides a few errant crosses). Martin Kelly, I thought, looked completely uncomfortable going forward. He is good defensively, but still has a way to go offensively.

Glen did look better than normal, but he still frustrates the hell out of me with his Megazord touch. His crosses have been, and I'm convinced always will be, atrocious. You'd think an attacking fullback would have learned to cross the ball a bit better over his career.

Kelly did look like he took a step back in his attacking play. He had been improving up until this point. To be fair though, it wasn't like he played dreadful, just average and tentative.

quote:

Spearing was a able to distribute the ball well today. Had a few stray passes but overall did fine. Charlie Adam is slow and has just looked terrible going forward. He is the most frustrating player on the team (yes even more so than Andy) Gerrard looked great in the opening 30 minutes then kind of faded. Still our best midfielder the rest of the game just not as great as he was in the beginning.

Chuck really was the weak link in the midfield. He's really become a bust. Terrible on defense and gradually getting worse on offense.

quote:

Kuyt had a dreadful game. His first 4 or 5 touches were terrible. Didnt really offer anything and was glad he was subbed out. Bellamy was underwhelming as well. Its hard to expect the 32 year old welshman to be our best player game in and game out.

Those early touches really were awful. He could have cost us a goal early on. Its a shame, I was rooting for him after his recent turn in form.

quote:

Carroll had an up and down game. I thought when he was playing well he looked really good. But, he also made some boneheaded plays (kicking it out for a corner, looking for the ref to call a foul rather than continuing play)Overall I think he is still improving which is great.

He's looking much better. By the summer I think he might finally be the threat we were hoping for for so long.

quote:

Suarez looked rusty, but he still scared the Spurs defense.

Assou-Ekotto was terrified. It was borderline hilarious.

Against a lesser opponent a draw would be disappointing. In this case, we drew against a quality opponent whose objective was 1 point. In this circumstance I'll settle for the draw. I was happy to see Liverpool on the attack for the most part, but I'm afraid that legitimate scoring opportunities are still too few. Granted, Tottenham presented a challenging puzzle in the final third. I'll take this one going forward, but will expect better results.

eta: i see the usual smear campaign against Suarez is in full effect in most media outlets

I can't believe we haven't won 3 in a row all year.

What I can't believe is that we don't have a single squad player who can put in a decent cross for Carroll. I am beyond frustrated.

Gerrard has shown the ability to, but he's been playing too deep in the midfield for most of his minutes back to really have the opportunities.

It is absolutely embarrassing. Johnson, Kuyt, Henderson and Bellamy all struggle greatly with it. Bellamy is better than the other three but still not good enough. It is the only reason I am all for Downing starting. He is literally the only one who can swing them in with a shard of quality. But then putting him in brings down the rest of the offense a notch. What can you do?

What I'd like to see:

-----------Reina------------

Kelly--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique

----------Spearing----------

Henderson-------------Downing

-----------Gerrard----------

------Suarez-----------------------
---------------Carroll-------------

Use Bellamy and Kuyt as change of pace wingers or for matchups when Carroll doesn't fit. Johnson moves up to the right side of the midfield where his attacking is more useful. I like Martin Kelly that much.

Well he isn't my first choice...but Lucas is gone til next year and we've tried Adam, Gerrard, and even Carragher in that defensive holding midfield role and Spearing has performed better than any of them...as sad as that sounds.

The real reason for Pool not being top 4. Not saying we will. Just stating the obvious. His injury has been devastating.

I'm not entirely convinced of this. Losing Lucas definitely hurt, but our defense has been fantastic even without him. Our midfield doesn't generally give away possession in the opposition's half and we have done a serviceable job of holding up play when necessary to turn the field around. Lucas didn't score goals or create good scoring opportunities and the lack of these things is what has kept us out of top 4.
