So with Comolli gone, does this distraction have a detrimental effect on the squad going into our biggest game of the season?

I hope so. God we're due for something positive. I'm already starting to get nervous about Sat.

it'll have the same effect on the players that the North Korean missile launch does.

Why would they give a shite?

Tell Tottenham that. It seems at the slightest sign of some type of drift from normalcy they collapse.

Any type of upheaval has potential to impact the psyche of a team. Especially when it's already as fragile as it is now. Why do you think this has sparked so much debate about the future of Kenny and of the players themselves on forums like TIA? Not because they don't give a shite.

why has an event sparked conversations on internet forums? Because that's what they're for.

Fans drastically overestimate what players think and or care about. I'd be shocked if something like this came as a surprise or if there were players there who didn't know that their time is probably up after the season.

But once you get past having a thought or two about it, nothing really changes. Now Kenny getting fired would be something much larger, but I doubt that Comolli going plays into anyone's thoughts.

That's not what I said. (Specifically) Why do you think it's sparked so much debate on the impact it will have on the players. It's not that people are talking about it, more so what they're talking about in reference to it.

I don't think they do. We've seen this type of thing effect clubs for the worse many times before. I'm not saying it will keep them up at night, but it definitely leaves them with either a positive or negative mindset.

And I would venture to say some of the players (I'm looking at you Mr. Adam), still have no idea their time is up despite their abysmal performances. These types of things can have effects on waking players up to the reality that they aren't immortal.

That's exactly the thing though. It does play into everyone's thoughts. At least that's the vast opinion of the majority of the fans on Twitter/TIA/etc. This type of mid season thing has huge implications one way or another on Kenny's future. It either means they blamed Comolli and Kenny is safe, or its just the start of the fat trimming and Kenny is living on borrowed time. If 90% of fans see it this way you really think his firing doesn't play into the player's minds the same way?

well I'm just going to tell you, if it doesn't effect someone on a personal level, they probably won't care.

I've read shite about teams I've been on or people I know closely dealing with their 'mental state' due to some event and on almost all occasions it's had no impact on the player/ team.

There are so many talking points in sports that get hammered incessantly that never even make their way into the locker room. This situation completely reeks of that.

Of course there's gonna be a huge case of confirmation bias this weekend (as there always is with stuff like this). Liverpool comes out and throttles Everton- well it's because they were motivated and fighting for their spot at the club. Liverpool plays flat and loses- it's because of the negativity this week and fear.

You can't be wrong.

Hmmm. Well, I'll take your word for it I guess. It's a shame they care that little about the people they work with or if it has any indication on their own futures at the club.

That would make sense I guess. I'm sure people are subliminally setting it up as an issue so they can use it as a scape goat either way. Someone or something to throw the blame/praise on and vindicate whatever happens.

it's not that at all. You don't get to the top of a cut throat profession like that by being compassionate and worrying a lot. It's a team game but your own interests are completely individual.

Eric Abidal is something you worry about. A teammate being shipped out (or a front office guy losing his job) barely registers. Not because you're an a-hole, but because it just can't. If it does, then you're probably mentally weak.

Happens all the time. No matter what, the performance can be a talking point (and sell papers/ gain a tv audience). The fact that we can't tell the difference in the performance means nothing because everything has been falsely contextualized.

Yeah I understand, I just imagine I would have a hard time separating the two. Especially if you're someone like Steven Gerrard/Carra/Kuyt/Reina who live and die with the club. Where do you draw the line about what you worry about and what you don't? I'm sure this run of play is gut wrenching for those four. How do they juggle the two emotions?

(not at all saying you're wrong here, it's an honest question for someone who would know)

I watched the vid where he met with the players and gave them all this. Half thought it was awesome, the other half had a look on their face like "lol, seriously?"

Hell yeah!!!!!

ETA: soccernet's prediction is calling for an even match with the safest bet being a player getting a straight red.
