Catching some of the Bayern match on FOX this morning, and of course they secured the league championship weeks ago (and are currently crushing Freiburg in their season finale). Bayern all the time in the Bundesliga.

In La Liga, its Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top. Third place is of course Atletico Madrid. Champion is basically always one of those three.

France Ligue 1 its Monaco and Paris st the top. Obviously.

Just makes league play pointless and only warm up for the champions league.

EPL is the only league with a semblance of parity, which is why it's the most popular even though not necessarily the best teams compared to the top 3 of La Liga. Last year people were going crazy over Leicester because they loved that an underdog actually won the league.

I just hope as the MLS continues to grow here in the states, they keep the parity that is often seen in US sports.

As a wise man once said, "Parity is for losers."

For real, though, it's all about money. The EPL's monster TV deals and how they distribute it makes for more contenders.

It's why the closest comparison to European soccer is college football. The richest programs can get the biggest and best staffs and attract the best players.

I like that aspect of both sports because it makes for more realistic expectations for teams of all levels... and it makes the underdog stories even bigger.

Salary caps are fine, but they can always be gamed. And look at the NBA, it's a two-horse race.

Yep and it makes all of the offseason moves more interesting.

Parity just isn't for who wins the league every year

It's about the teams qualifying for Europe and fighting the drop

The Bundesliga has plenty of that

In England it's basically the same six teams competing for Europe every year.

MLS has more parity than the rest of American sports leagues. But when half the league makes the playoffs and the quality of teams is pretty even across the board what do you expect.

More than half the league makes the NBA playoffs, and it's currently the most lopsided league in America.

Typically, European sports lack parity, not just soccer. If you watch European hockey, basketball, etc. you'd see similar outcomes.

Maybe that's because even though the leagues are country wide, they generally have continent wide competition as well. And so if a couple of teams from each country dominate locally, they have more of a chance to be competive continent wide.

And this is fine. But it basically means playing your in your regular season in each respective soccer league is just positioning/gearing up for the Champions League.

It is lopsided in the NBA, but at least the top teams rotate around. Yeah you have the Laker and Celtics traditionally. But the NBA finals competitiors three years running are Golden State and Cleveland, who are nobodies in the long history of the NBA.

Bc the gap in talent is absurd

This false notion of American sports having a tons a parity is funny

Hockey probably has the most and a majority of the country doesn't care.

Rotating

Lebron is going to his 7th straight finals

That's kind of happened in England, too. Manchester City and Chelsea were nobodies in terms of titles. Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa have won Champions League titles and are stuck in the Championship right now.

Yeah and 4 of those were in Miami and the other three in Cleveland. Which makes the point that the talent rotates around (even an individual player), and so different teams have a chance on any given year.

ETA: If the NBA were La Liga, Lebron would never be in Cleveland, and Steph would never be in Golden State. The Lakers and the Celtics would nab those guys every single time.

The NBA is a superstar driven league with people changing teams all the time or just rooting for players

Lebron is the team and the ratings

Show me a league with a lot of parity and I'll show you a league with a lot of mediocrity.

The huge amount of parity in MLS, just shows the huge lack of resources and how it effects the league.

First is quality managers. A good quality manager could coach circles around the league like Bruce Arena. Atlanta by far has the best manager who is tactically so much better. They would be running away with league if they had a defense.

Next is quality scouting, with out the money to do it on a big time scale its harder to bring in players from abroad. But its getting better.

Next is a youth system who keeps turning out talent to dominate. FC Dallas though look to be the ones to break through. But issue is MLS teams will never be able to keep these groups together long before they bolt to greener pastures.

LA Galaxy proved how dominate a club can be with a good manager and better resources than everyone else. Thats not parity when they were on top.

Not really. It's just right now there's 2 historically great teams that are way ahead of the rest of the league. Besides the Cavs and Warriors dominance, it's not nearly as lopsided as you say.

Right. But Lebron is the ultimate outlier. He will probably wind up the greatest player ever in mine and a lot of others opinions. At least top 3. And because he plays in the East it's been a lot easier lately. It wasn't always though. They had to go through those great Celitics teams. Spurs / Thunder / Warriors. All great teams. The teams he's gone through from the East and West have rotated.

I was talking about teams with a realistic chance of winning a title.
