Is there a legitimate chance that Jurgen leaves Donovan off the final 23?

Discuss.

I don't think there is a real chance that Landon doesn't make the trip to Brazil. Although Jurgen's attitude towards LD lately has been a bit unsettling.

Motivation and I don't necessarily mean for LD. If Jurgen can make everyone else believe that his spot isn't safe then they all believe that nobody's spot is safe.

I'm just not sure that Landon or Dempsey are the obvious starts this time around. Dempsey has been great lately, but Landon has done nothing special. We have lots of attacking talent.

Part of me says play the best players. But part of me says that Landon and Dempsey will understand the moment more.

I still think Landon is one of the best players, but he hasn't looked himself lately, and I don't think JK is bluffing.

Can anybody state definitively that Landon belongs in the starting 11?

I wouldn't be surprised, honestly. Landon was hot garbage at the beginning of the MLS season, and didn't look great against Mexico.

Also, Jurgen is intent on making sure that everyone understands he is the real star of the US Soccer program, and has demeaned all of the American-American "stars" (Dempsey, Bradley, Altidore, Donovan, Bocanegra) at one point in his tenure, with the exception of Howard.

If he does leave off one of the big names, he better be damned sure we advance out of the group - if not, the firestorm he saw before the Honduras game won't be shite.

Yeah, he hasn't scored, but saying he has been "hot garbage" is unfair.

No, but I can see him riding the pine and being a 60th minute sub, J.K. warned him about sitting out until MLS started.

No one needs to tell me that Bruce Areana wouldn't allow Donavon to join a European country, that's total BS, Donavon told B.A. to say that. Now he is out of shape and playing like shyt.

Not putting Landon in the 11 is a fireable offense IMO.

I am one of the biggest Landon fanboys on this board. Who would Jurgen even take over Landon in the 23? Joe Corona? Come on.

Jurgen's attitude towards the American players has always pissed me off. He specifically called out Benny Feilhaber for no reason, early in his tenure. He said something like "we shouldn't be at a point where we're relying on players like Benny Feilhaber for significant minutes.:

I have no idea why he said that. Did Benny frick his daughter without a condom or something? Feilhaber is 10 times more legit than many of the scrubs he called in to the USMNT the past 2 years (although I wouldn't have him in the final 30, either).

His treatment of Donovan, who is hands down the greatest player to ever play for the US, is also shameful. It's amazing how fast he forgets how well Landon played last summer. He had something like 6 goals and 7 assists in 8 games. That's an unbelievable performance. But he didn't run out the last two laps of a post-practice job.

CUT HIM AND GIVE HIS SPOT TO CASTILLO!!!!

If he doesn't put Donovan on the final 23, and the US doesn't make it out of the group, he should be fired on the spot for his arrogance.

I have no faith that we will make it out of the 23. And I don't think any coach in the world would improve our odds all that much. We got placed in the worst World Cup group of all time. It's bad luck, and it's a shame, but we shouldn't blame the coach as long as he picks a reasonable group to start and come off the bench.

However, if he decides to play politics and make the national team about himself rather than the players, including one who busted his arse for a dozen years at a level that is almost unprecedented in the history of soccer, that is embarrassing and a poor display of leadership that this team does not need going forward.

He hasn't forgotten Donovan. He's even mentioned in interviews how good Donovan was in that Gold Cup.

I am one of the few in saying that I like Jurgen's methods. Sure, they seemed ridiculous at first, but he's clear as frick with the fact that EVERYONE has to push hard for a place in the squad and that you can't rest on your laurels. That's how it should be in any team. Donovan is not above that. That said, Jurgen knows the quality Donovan brings and will include him in the 23, if not in the 11.

By that method, Zusi and Besler should be benched as well.
