Listened to Cowherd and he mentioned something about soccer/MLS being more popular among younger people than NHL and MLB. And it seems like every time a MLS game is on T.V. the stands are packed, loud, sold out. I wanna go to a MLS game some day. Love the stadiums, noise, atmosphere, etc.

I highly doubt soccer period has overtaken baseball as a whole in the country. It's bigger than hockey in the south, but not in the Midwest/northeast. No doubt in my mind that more people tune into the MLB playoffs than MLS playoffs though. NHL is probably close

You do realize that revenue figures has MLB bringing in more money than the NBA, right?

No.

But if we're honest, hockey is so far behind the other three that saying there's a "Big 4" almost feels silly.

I don't think it will be long before soccer is more popular than hockey in this country (if it's not already). But MLS isn't close to NHL.

This is true, according to several surveys.

Ehh...every might be a stretch.

They're a ton of fun.

To answer your question, no. I think MLS could pass NHL nationally in my lifetime, but it'll still be far behind the NFL, NBA and MLB. Soccer as a sport, though, should be close-ish to moving past hockey.

Well, in terms of revenue for all sports leagues worldwide, the top 5 goes:

NFL
MLB
NBA
Premier League
NHL

MLS is #18 in the world and a distant 5th in the U.S.

The amount of money that baseball makes is staggeringly enormous. That's what happens when you play 162 games in a season for each club, and theres a ton of clubs. Throw in the fact that most of these games are televised and you have a bonanza.

That being said, baseball is dying. Less young people are playing than any time before. And soccer is the fastest growing most popular sport for kids. It's a generational thing, the results won't be felt for many years.

And Cowherd is a fricking douche. He hates soccer but probably read some info where it is growing massively so he now he is going to pretend to like it. He's the ultimate whore. Don't listen to him, he's terrible.

MLS is not more popular than NHL, but soccer in general most definitely is, by a long shot.

How much of the NHL's revenue is because of Canada?

Thats a fair assessment.

Most Americans would rather watch top European soccer leagues than the MLS

Soccer is growing no doubt.... has a long way to go.

NFL is killing itself until they figure out the happy medium on the injury front. That said we love some FOOTBALL and I do not see it changing.

The Rangers now generate more revenue than Toronto or Montreal.

I believe and if people say its b/c of ticket prices they are wrong. Leafs and Habs tickets are insanely high priced.
