Solid thread. I might be the only Arsenal fan who doesn't hate Barcelona, mostly because I usually reserve hatred for styles of play rather than individual teams. Also I want them to give us 50 million pounds for Cesc.

I'm not sure why Pep gave in to Jose in this instance. Perhaps he felt that Jose using his first name was a sign of disrespect? Surely in this psychological game, Jose has the advantage. Barcelona are better than Real, so we will see how this plays out in the game.

He used the "tu" form with him, brah. You can't let that slide.

Right, I remember reading that now. Pep seems so pensive though, that the use of a more informal tone should hardly be reason to react the way he did.

I still don't understand how busquets starts for barca...

Whatever people think of Busquets propensity to dive, I think he's a excellent central midfielder. His first touch is superb, and he has the ability to recycle play while at the same time providing physical presence for a small Barca side. Despite his size which makes you think he should be clumsy, he's quite graceful on the ball. I'd argue that he's a better lynchpin for that system than Yaya was, and is better for the tika-taka style of the Spanish national team, an improvement on Marcos Senna. Just my opinion though.

CR7 is an incredible douche but, at least for me, he's more entertaining than annoying for some reason. Ramos and Pique fall into this category too as all their bitching and fighting makes me laugh. . .

i find that it's easier to like someone that is a complete dickhead when they just don't give a frick. i don't even understand why ronaldo rolls around anymore, but he's never going to stop, and it makes me it also helps that he embraces hate

quote:

I find Alves, Busquets (and to a slightly lesser degree Iniesta) are simply tiresome and annoying with their tedious whiney antics.

i like busquets, but dani alves is merely ronaldo with less talent if ronaldo was a left-back and stayed wide. he doesn't defend and puts a large portion of his free kicks well over the goal. he also has an extremely punchable face. all of those combine to create a pretty hateable figure. i love it when dani alves steps up to a free kick

"is this going to be the one?"
"nope, 30 yds over the goal"

These Arsenal fans claim they hate Barcelona now, when i recall as recently as last year they were all slobbering on about how Arsenal were "Barca lite" and how they respected Barcelona bc they play the way the game is supposed to be played. Then they get knocked out two years in a row and Barcelona becomes some great Satan.

I think you're touching on the surface level antagonism, but this year it has been elevated by the Toral affair, as well as Arsenal's public pursuit of Sergi Samper, which ruffled some feathers in Barcelona, with the suggestion that Arsenal poaches young players across the continent. This has been leveled before, by none other than Michel Platini, but Arsenal can hardly be blamed. England has the 90 mile rule which dictates how the area players can be recruited from in England, which limits the ability of Arsenal to recruit in England.

Barcelona have one of the best academies in the world, but the same charge isn't leveled at them when they recruit a player like Iniesta from Albacete, or Messi from Argentina, or when they sign players from other clubs like Busquets, who joined in 2005, and Pedro who joined when he was 17. I thought Rosell was myopic in his criticism of Arsenal in the Toral situation, especially considering the difficulty of identifying talented players from a young age.

Sorry, I misspoke. It's the 90 minute rule.

quote:

The 90 minute rule is an FA rule which states that academy players must live within a 90 minute commute of their team.

90 minute rule.

Be born within a 90 minute commute of the side which wishes to recruit him? Otherwise, this rule is pretty stupid. Messi and his family were transferred by Barça to Barcelona, paying his growth hormone treatment, in order to seal the deal.
