been looking up this league, and i think they should think long and hard about the footprint and where their clubs can reasonably travel...

so they have Northshore United now... where is that team gonna play? EDIT-nm, Covington?

i was sitting in the stands at the old Hannan High football stadium in Meraux thinking they should bring a team there. it's owned by St. Bernard Parish Rec Department, and the football bleachers are still there which can seat a few people. I don't know how wide the grass area is but it might be wide enough. A little bit needs to be done, like get a new scoreboard, fix the lights maybe...

i just like the thought of a league with Kenner, New Orleans, maybe a Uptown club, and now the Northshore represented, with maybe another Slidell club, a Metairie club, West Bank, St. Bernard, etc... that's some rivalries there.

i also think we have a good environment to promote and get people out to games... weekly newspapers to advertise in, etc... by the time we get a team we'll probably be at 50,000 population in the parish. we're already getting college baseball next season at Chalmette High.

Like I said about a new college baseball team at Nunez, it will be initially made up of guys who tried out for Delgado and didn't make it. Our number of soccer teams will grow like that

the Central Texas team (in the San Antonio area) they're adding is a damn near 5 hour drive from Lake Charles, their closest opponent as of now. in the event Pensacola ever plays them, someone's taking an over 10 hour drive.

The first week of the 2018 Gulf Coast Premier League season did not disappoint. Some newbies showed they belonged. Some of the old guard rolled along. Some struggles remain as teams continue to gel. Lots of goals, lots of action, and yet another barn burner in Mobile where the home team kept it close but fell short again.

Sort of related to the GCPL. The North Texas Rayados, who knocked out Motagua New Orleans, 2-1, last November in the last round of qualifiers for the US Open Cup, defeated USL side Energy FC 5-2. Rayados and Motagua have been Region III rivals since 2013.

Mississippi Brilla, who knocked out the Jesters in first round proper, defeated Indy Eleven FC of USL.

What a difference a week makes. Early seasons are always a bit chaotic, and there was much in the air following GCPL’s week one. The defending champs Gaffa FC had not played, the most successful team in league history CD Motagua of New Orleans was a week away from their regular season debut, and a surprising result in Shreveport shook up the entire Eastern Conference. Every club now has one game under its belt and while the picture is not fully painted, it is starting to become a bit clearer.

GCPL WEEK THREE RECAP: BLUES GRAB THREE, BOCA ROMPS, AND MOTAGUA ROLL

In a weekend whose weather represents summer life in the Gulf Coast, teams are beginning to separate themselves from the pack. Gaffa FC, Motagua, Pensacola FC, and BOCA FC Knights all looked like world beaters over the last few days. In the meantime, the biggest game along the Northern Gulf Coast was pushed off due to threats of Tropical Storm Alberto as AFC Mobile and Port City FC’s “Forgotten Coast Cup” first-leg match was postponed until June 20th. So as the rain rolled through, or in oft cases did not, soccer played on as the Gulf Coast Premier League continued to move.
