@ Trinidad - D

This is one game where a draw still gets us where we need to be but in reality, nothing other than a win should be acceptable. There are zero reasons a healthy US team should not beat T&T.

Meh, in the last group stage before the hex, we played a scoreless draw at T&T only to beat them 4-0 later on at home.

I know it sounds like an excuse, but away matches in CONCACAF are just a completely different animal. The fields are glorified cow pastures, the fans throw whatever is on their person, the refs are easily influenced. It's just a surreal experience.

ETA: I agree that we are unequivocally a more talented team than everybody in this group not named Mexico, but knowing our history in road qualifiers, I can never be mad at surviving for a point.

I completely agree with you on all of those points but at some point, a line has to be drawn where we are just so much better than competition the team should be able to overcome those factors 95% of the time. I am referring to a healthy team that has not qualified yet. I am never mad about a point on the road but sometimes it feels like we have gotten very comfortable with bad performances on the road because of "CONCACAF".

I always wonder how would some of the "big" European nations fare in a CONCACAF setting. Going to these remote nations, playing on a shite pitch & don't forget the hostile fans and consistently bad/dangerous refereeing.

I get that. I'm by no means enthused with the aesthetics of our performance last night, but with the hole we dug ourselves in, looking pretty be damned, just get to Russia.

I also think what makes last night result easier to swallow is not so much that we got one point, but that Panama only got one point as well, and at home. It's looking like they will be our direct competitor for that #3 spot, so them dropping points at home was big.

For the record, I do believe we will win one of our away matches at Trinidad or Honduras, I was more or less showing that as long as we take care of business at home and get draws on the road everywhere else besides Azteca, then we should be OK.

I think they would have the hardest time dealing with officiating. Was it Jamaica or Guatemala in the last cycle where they played with the smallest dimensions possible, it looked they were playing on a basketball court.

I agree with you and points are points when you qualifying and that is the most important thing. Qualification in CONCACAF is pretty much a street fight and you can easily been on the outside looking in with a couple bad showings. The other side of my brain is screaming you should be winning these games

Seems like something Gautemala would do.

Grant Wahl had a story ahead of yesterday's match about how when we went to Panama in 2013, the Panamanian Federation had plans to have "a fan" run onto the field late in the match to stall for time when they were beating us 2-1.

Turns out they waited a minute too late.
