Just pissed we gave up a goal on a bullshite long throw.

Hopefully Fabs, Yedlin, Wood are healthy in June.

You know if we wouldn't have scored in Panama 4 years ago Mexico would've fallen apart. That 99.9% is bullshite
Why didn't we let them implode

It's weird the contrasting mindsets between soccer (around the world and also here in the States) and the other major American sports, in terms of what coaches and fans expect from the result of a game. You'll never here an American professional football, basketball, or baseball coach express anything other than an expected win. I guess the answer is that draws aren't an option in those sports, but it's still strange to here a coach say publicly that a win isn't the number one priority.

A win was the number one priority but not at the expense of a loss. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have even tried to score.

Considering what we had to work with after all the injuries a point isn't bad at all. That game was brutal to watch though

Other American sports also don't have standings that work like soccer either. But yeah, it has everything to do with the regularity of a tie. When you take that out of the equation, you really can't have the same mindset.

Bruce and several of the players said publicly the goal of these 2 matches was 4 points.

I guess soccer players/coaches can see the big picture.

v Trinidad - W
@ Mexico - L
v Costa Rica - W
@ Honduras - D
v Panama - W
@ Trinidad - D

That's 15 points, and with the way this Hex is trending i.e. everybody beating each other up, that will be enough to qualify in the top 3.

Think it's more likely we draw the Costa Rica home match and get a road win at Honduras or Trinidad. But I agree 15 points and we should be in the top 3

Away matches in the Hex are very tough for every team, partially due to the hostile atmospheres, and partly the jet lag from long travel. The one away match I think we should be disappointed not to win would be Trinidad & Tobago, and even that won't be easy.

If we're lucky, they'll be mathematically eliminated by then and will be starting a bunch of kids.

Costa Rica and Mexico seem certain to qualify, the way this Hex is going. So we want the other 3 teams to lose, or draw when they play each other to minimize their points. We just need to finish top 3, it really doesn't matter where.

Given the mangled mess of a lineup we fielded today, I'm happy with the draw, even if it wasn't pretty. The injury bug hit us hard these two games. We should be fielding a much better team for the upcoming Hex games.

And in this stage, 3rd place literally gets the same prize as 1st place.

Tonight's goal was to not fall 4 points behind Panama.

Exactly... I couldn't care less about "winning" the hex.

Yeah, I have no problem with the result. But the fact that we gave up THAT goal to throw away two points

Agreed... the pitch was shite and for as good as Jones and Bradley did defensively, they still don't know how to coexist when on the attack.

We played serviceable/mediocre, but the result was good.

At this point, our goal is to make sure we gain points on Panama & Honduras... Those two and us will likely fill out 3, 4, 5 when the hex finishes. Getting a draw on the road at Panama meant that they didn't get 3 points at home, which is necessary in the hex. A loss yesterday and we're 4 points back of the last automatic qualifier spot. Now, we're only one point back with Panama still having to come play us at home.

Factor in that we captured 4 points this week, while Panama and Honduras both settled for just 1, and fixed our goal differential, we gained a lot of ground over the last two games.
