It is said a ton about this Belgium squad having their Golden Generation/Era.

I think Chile is having theirs as well. Winning back to back COPAs would be huge.

Has the USA had ours, or are we seeing this next generation become that? Pulisic, Miazga,Yedlin, Brooks, Morris etc..

What other countries would you guys say are having their Golden Generation?

If most of the USA's current crop of young players can get trained up in Europe (or stronger MLS academies for those who are late starts), break out in Europe and stay in Europe as starters, then that will be its golden generation.

MLS has a role to play in helping guys like DeAndre Yedlin and Jordan Morris get noticed as well as making the USMNT's pool deeper. But the stars need to be playing with the best of the best while the domestic league continues to grow.

Also, Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the middle of its golden generation. Even though the country is newish in its current state, that particular area hasn't seen an explosion of talent like this before.

If the US has had ours already I'd be very sad.

Our best generation right now has been the Donovan/Beasley/Dempsey/O'Brien one that began with the 2002 World Cup

A chance at a better European team, I guess? He wanted to play in Seattle instead of at Werder Bremen.

I'm afraid he just didn't want to leave home.

Turkey had theirs around 1998-2003.

Croatia has theirs 1995-2000. Actually Serbia was quite good then too.

Bulgaria in the early 90s, culminating in the great 1994 World Cup performance.

Colombia seems to be having theirs right now as well, even though the early 90s teams had more hype (and underperformed).

I would say the US golden generation started with the 1999 U-20 World Cup when Donovan was the player of the tournament and Beasley was number 2.

You sure that wasn't the U-17 tournament?

In any case, your point still stands. Onyewu should also be added to that golden generation imo.

If you add McBride, you gotta add Reyna.

False.

McBride is older than Gregg Berhalter and Ben Olsen, both members of the "previous" US generation.

Onyewu and Convey are the other "big" members of the Class of '99.

I don't know enough about their history but in the early-mid 2000s when Brazil had Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka all in their primes, that team was as fun to watch as any I've ever seen.

And also guys like Morris will not ever make more money than they would make here at home. Roger Bennett said it great on this last podcast in regards to Bradley and others getting paid so much to come home and play in a lesser league: you don't see the Belgian league paying twice the market value for Eden Hazard and KDB to play there - but we do it here.

They can't afford those guys. MLS can afford guys like Bradley because the comparative value is so much less.

Honduras had its golden generation up to the 2014 World Cup with Carlos Pavon, Carlo Costly, Maynor Figueroa, and Wilson Palacios.

This is an interesting Wikipedia article on the subject
