I never said they were fun, but I felt like no one else had a real chance. To me, that seems dominating.

I could be misremembering because that is the start of my serious soccer following.

Everyone thought that they couldn't reproduce their success from Euro 08. Brazil was a massive favorite in '10, as they were playing really well under Dunga.

Spain played amazing considering they were able to dictate the game to their opposition. That was the most impressive feat of that tournament. At the same time if the Netherlands were a bit less cynical in the final it easily could have gone against the Spanish.

Yeah, I knew nothing about soccer. It seemed like the Dutch upset the Brazilians and Brazil was unhappy with Dunga.

I had no idea what Euros or anything at the time. I just thought Spain controlled every game.

Well the Netherlands flamed out in hilarious fashion in Euro 08. Spain was always thought of as a perennial underachiever, so it was surprising when they won Euro 08 the way they did, with very technical, entertaining football. Brazil was playing really well with Dunga as he introduced a very European style. Then they lost to the Netherlands in hilarious fashion.

Today makes it more impressive. Plus, they dismantled Portugal and looked strong against France. It is not like Spain 2010 domination, but Germany has scored 17 goals in 6 matches (of course 11 in two slaughters). Germany's +13 GD is impressive. It would be a better run than Argentina and probably Holland (because 5-1 over Spain is impressive).

I know you are downplaying Germany and before tonight people may have agreed, but they are deserving.

What about what the other 2 data points tell us??

As someone who was a big follower of Spain in 2010, I didn't feel they "dominated." Did they have a shite ton of possession? Yes. But they always seemed a fluke late goal away from losing or drawing tbh. That's what a low score line match will get you.

If holland played, not just tried to manhandle, in the final match, it could have been a completely different story. They had the talent.

Yep. In the group stages they looked the best and it wasn't close. Arshavin ripped them a new one in the knockouts.

germany had a great shot before the cup started. Now that they are in the finals it is inevitable.

They got out of he hardest group, and then got out the tougher side of the bracket. They have been the best team in this tournament. How can anyone dispute that up to this point?

This was around the time that I started following soccer religiously. What a game.

They've outscored their opposition (Portugal, Ghana, United States, Algeria, France and Brazil) 17-4. 5 wins, 1 draw. Beat the crap out of Brazil on their home soil. May not have been "exciting" but they were well on their way against Portugal, and the red card may have actually made them take the foot off the gas. IMO, they've been pretty dominant in this tournament. Never really thought they'd lose at any point.

My biggest beef with Spain's 2010 run was they beat a Mueller-less Germany in the semis. Müeller won the golden boot and accounted for as many goals as the entire Spanish tournament (5 goals 3 assists). I am biased but that sticks in my crawl.
