Any suggestions on quality youngsters rated 70+ to bring in and add squad depth?

Gyasi Zardes was my US pick. You can get him for $3-4 million and is a pacey striker rated above 70. He scored 13 EPL goals off my bench.

Other considerations, Kurt Zouma (might be above price range a year into game though) and Ricardo Rodriguez is a 80+ rated LB (that I got for $10.5 mill).

Edit: Also sad that Barkley didn't work out for you. He's rated 82 in mine and has been solid as ever.

Zardes is scoring in bunches but not progressing for me. It's frustrating. John Brooks is a stud. A season and a half after getting him for 3 mil or so he's a 77. Also got an Italian cb named del fabro who has similar growth and cost.

I had Fiorentina offer me 22 mil for Brooks (a gain of twenty million after only two seasons) but I turned it down because I love Murica.

This window I got Yedlin from Spurs for 2 mil and Zelalem from Arsenal for 1 million plus a player I bought for a mil in my first season who was only a 69. What a steal. Then I bought Eric Palmer Brown because I had some change and he was only 750k.

My biggest gripe about transfer windows is that no one seems to want to buy my players.

Agreed. I don't get it. I have a young 70 rated goalkeeper. I get zero offers and it took 1.5 months before someone approached me for a loan.

Zouma

I already bought him the first window for about 7 million. He's an absolute beast of a player. Went up 4 points the first season.

Gave career mode a break and started manager mode with Coventry City.

Got Emerson Hyndman and Pierre Højbjerg on loan. Not sure how I pulled it off but I did. Højbjerg is unstoppable in League One

Bought Dennis Flores and he is coming along very nice when I sub him on. Amazing pace, just a little out of control with the ball.

Vietto is incredible. He's bagging goals for Everton. Pogba/Carvalho/Isco midfield is unreal.

My Coventry City side is stakkkkked

Beat Burnley in the 3rd round of the FA Cup and have not lost a game in the league with only 3 months left.

All the old heads who didn't want to re-up their contracts I sold in the winter transfer window. I have no raided United, City and Liverpool for youth players.

I'm entering year 3 with Chelsea. I'm currently running Chelsea's default 4-2-3-1.

Courtois (86; hasn't grown whereas I sold Petr to Juve and he's now an 89 )
De Sciglio (84)
Laporte (83)
Varane (83)
Alaba (84)
Matic (85)
Fabregas (85)
Schurrle (83)
Oscar (86)
Hazard (89)
Costa (89)

I always invest most of my money and time into scouting and have started to compile a solid youth squad. My best youth players right now are a 17 y/o RM with 90-94 potential and a 16 y/o CB with 90-94 potential. The CB is a beast; 6'5" 210 lbs. 80+ in jumping, heading, stamina, marking, and standing tackle.

I also have a Russian striker--- only 5'8" --- but he's 88+ potential and 71 ovr at 18. My biggest head-scratcher thus far is my Danish GK (6'6" 200 lbs @ 16) he started as a 72 at 16, now he's 19 and has been loaned out for 2 years and has yet to grow.

Everton doesn't realize it yet, but I'm buying their 17 y/o, 72 OVR, 6'6" ST, with 85+ sprint speed, acceleration, and stamina when the January window rolls around

ETA: As far as gameplay goes, if one more AI team kicks a lobbed ball from midfield and then dinks it over my keeper, I'm going to throw my tv out the window.

I just poach all the young guys from the big clubs right now while my youth teams develop. Those guys will never play with the big clubs in the game.

I have signed just in the first year alone

Paddy McNair - Man United
Brandon Barker - Man City
Cameron Brannagan - Liverpool

On loan

James Wilson - Man United w/ an option to buy
José Ángel Pozo - Man City who I will also try and buy b/c he is on the cheap.
Reece James - Man United
Pierre Højbjerg - FC Bayern
Emerson Hyndman - Fulham

I should be able to afford all of them with promotion and a deep cup run. In the last 8 of the FA Cup right now and final of the JP Trophey. Thrown in with my getting rid of all the disgruntled players. My top scorer is leaving on a free to Spain at the end of the year and the other two loans ran up at the mid season point.

Also signed two more Americans youngster with

Dennis Flores and Erik Palmer-Brown.

I full believe in the youth movement. Want this strong core of players all under 23 to stay together then I start with other transfer and get the youth academy going. The club is pretty poor and in real life the owners didn't even want to pay rent last year to the ground so they played like 30 miles away.

Would be nice to have some rich Russian or Arab buy the club. Its never happened to me but Ive seen it happen to other clubs in manager mode.

Goalkeepers don't really start growing til around 23 apparently.

Pro tip: academy players don't have stat increases until May 1.

Also I want to increase the difficulty now that I have decent players on my team (started a career with shitty Leicester and now in my 3rd season) but I'm worried about this computer lobbing balls over my keeper from half field bullshite. It's already bad enough that they lob beautiful balls over the top of my CBs to a striker making a perfect run who wasn't even on the screen for me to defend.

THIS!

If you aren't taking advantage of this, you're doing it wrong. Also, if your player is 16/17 y/o and already at around 66-70 OVR with potential between 80-89, he likely will not grow come May 1st. May just want to sign him to get closer to loaning him out (very rare to loan a < 17 y/o or recently signed player)

However, if they've only been in your academy for a short time and they're OVR is in the 65+ range (88+ POT), you likely have a phenom on your hands.

I could go on for days about youth and youth academy.

They do if you play them. I have a 17 y/o keeper that is +3 this year with only 4 caps.

The scouts for youth academy are insane expensive if you want a good one. A poor club like mine can't afford that shite.

That's no joke, but if you can get your team up to winning a bit it's a worthwhile investment.

I may start tracking my investments in scouts and see what kind of profits they can make. I'll be conservative about my estimates but I was just offered £10M for a 72 OVR RW. I rarely use him because he doesn't fit my system, but that 1 player already covers the investment made in that 1 scout.

Side note: Costa tried to force his way out by refusing my contract, so I put him on the season-long loan list in December. On 1 Jan the board told me I had to sell him and Bayern came through with a loan offer. He just accepted my contract offer while on loan at Bayern and is no longer "unsettled".

I also signed a Swedish GK, he's 6'6" at 16 and already up +3 to a 72, so apparently the other one is just not growing even though he has 15 caps this year in 5 months.
