Germany's Muller outdoes anything I've seen from any Greek player in terms of faking head injuries to beg cards, flopping with minimal contact and cynical fouls.

Yea I don't remember Muller being such a douche at the World Cup but after watching him in the CL Final and early on in this tournament he's been a disgrace.

I don't really remember much from the WC but he pulled some of the same shite against Roma in CL (and this is not to say all our players are model citizens either.)

It's telling about this board though that if he were Italian or Spanish instead of German we'd never hear the end of it.

To be fair the Spanish and the Italians have mostly earned their reputations. I have no love for Germany whatsoever but Muller seems to be more exception than rule. Kind of like Ashley Young for England.

I can see that point to some degree but that stereotype gets exaggerated to a remarkable degree.

For example, I recall some video of a De Rossi "dive" that used to be posted here daily when the video was started at just the right time to not show that a player had spiked his achilles from behind just before he went down.

What I will give you is that Italians and Spanish (and Greeks) are a lot more demonstrative in their discussions with refs etc. However, Germans and English are smarter in playing up the model player image but then pulling the same BS.

Hell, Klinsmann was guilty of maybe the worst dive in WC history to get that Argentine defender sent off in 1990.

Germany's shite smells no better than anyone elses.

Nothing like a bunch of Italians gathering en masse to protest De Rossi getting sent off for clearly elbowing Brian McBride in the face right in front of the referee.

I actually like Italy, so I'm not going to try and slam all their players. I just found that scenario funny (other than my favorite player getting taking an elbow to the face).

Fair enough. Personally I hate diving as much, probably more, than anyone. However, I can almost stomach going down to try and get a call. It's the flailing around, rolling over multiple times, clutching at body parts, screaming, getting stretchered off etc... trying to get someone carded or sent off that sends me over the edge.
I don't know these guys handle it so well when they get sent off after someone pulls one of these bitch stunts against them. There is no way I wouldn't be fighting.

Have you ever seen Jurgen Klinsmann's dive from the 1990 WC?

Disgraceful. Amazing to me that someone who should appreciate the hard work it takes to reach that level of representing your country at a major tournament would try so blatantly and disgustingly to take it away from a fellow "professional".

That was a horrible elbow by De Rossi. No excuse but De Rossi did apologize and repeatedly admitted himself that he lost his temper and totally fricked up. That said he's still a pretty hot headed player even if he's calmed down a lot in his mid-20s.

No one wants dirty plays like that or out and out cheating.

It's kind of Muller's seeming tendency to look right at an opposing player's achilles and intentionally stomp it that prompted me to post about his antics in the first place. Well, that and all the German worship on this board.

However, a lot of what bothers some people about the Italian players, I find funny. All 11 players and all the bench and fans going through the same operatic series of hand gestures after a bad call is funny as hell and adds flavor more than is regrettable.

Oh, I know. I actually do like De Rossi. Isn't he the guy who scored with his hand and then told the ref not to count it?

The Argentinian defender did have his studs up but I remember seeing close-ups that I couldn't find now on youtube where it's pretty clear he didn't actually ever touch him.

That Jurgy was still flopping like a hooked catfish on the bottom of the boat five minutes later. . .

Yeah, kind of sad how many Roma fans were pissed about that. .

I dont mind the going down easy as much as the theatrics...

I think the South American's are the worst offenders, but i guess thats part of their culture down there...
