Well looks like that debate has been put to bed after the men made the semifinals in the copa.

Also these women's euro teams are just going to get better bc at club level the money pumped into them by big money football clubs. So don't be surprised when their leagues especially the English one becomes the best in the world while the American women's league is subsidized by the MLS and US soccer and their wages still suck.

It's pretty simple to see how money will bridge the gap and you will even see our best players coming to England eventually when they get paid a lot more.

All time leader in appearances for a goalkeeper.

I'm not sure this team crapping out of the Olympics is a good argument against equal pay, given that the men haven't made the tournament the past two cycles. Just playing devils advocate here.

Stop it

You are better than this comparing U-23 that no one cares about to the other major womens tournament outside the WC.

and doing a really bad job at it

if anyone brought that argument up they should be laughed at.

Have not a couple of the top women on the US team at least entertained or mentioned going to Europe? I'm certain I saw Carli Loyd mention it somewhere.

East Nasty can't have an actual discussion on here. He seems to just post shite for shock value.

Its a shame b/c when he first started posting he wasn't like that.

Anyway why would the top American women not give playing for English clubs the time of day when clubs are paying 30-35k pounds a year when in the states they make around 30k dollars.

It's valuable experience in an international tournament setting that is hard to replicate with national teams. Stu Holden recently got interviewed about it and mentioned how it's invaluable for our young players to experience that environment, as did Lalas. I'll agree with the pros on this one.

It was good for them back then. Now at this stage it is detrimental to youth development. I'll agree with proven football clubs and countries with a track record in developing talent.

I'd much rather have a guy like emerson hyndman in preseason camp with his premier league team getting elite level coaching and training than dicking around in an u-23 tournament vs most countries B/C youth teams.

I'm with SCH at least in this argument. It's not a very good point to say the women are more successful because they made it and the men didn't. Really, it's the women made it and the boys didn't.

Well, our national team coach said it was an important goal to get to the Olympics. Too bad we did not. I still think it's a great opportunity for these players to get into a real tournament environment. That is very hard to replicate, and like I said other pros agree with the sentiment.

Preseason camp and then regular season professional matches >>>> U-23 B/C team Olympics

If this tourny was so important then why are the top youth prospects not playing?

You said two pros. Both of which played in the infancy of American soccer development.
