Complaining about "European flopppers" and "vuvuzelas." Yep, you're certainly someone we should be taking advice from.

If you mean no history of political or regional attachment, then yes, that could certainly play a factor.

You can walk into a bar across the street from Wrigley Field wearing Cards gear and not have to worry about getting the shite kicked out of you--or worse.

Nothing screams exciting atmosphere like a midseason game between the Hornets and the Kings. I just love to be told to "GET LOUD" and shout "DE-FENSE" thirty times a game.

As a Pelicans season ticket holder, FML.

As a student who attends every home game of an SEC team...the atmosphere at an MLS game is still remarkably better. I've taken plenty of friends who didn't like soccer and had them coming out of the stadium amazed and begging me to bring them back.

Most the travel is due to transplants and bandwagoner in America. Away fans will never be big in the MLS our country is just to be and it's too expensive to fly every other weekend.

Other than the pacific northwest, the DC,Philly, NYC up to NE and Toronto to Montreal no one really travels. But id say the best traveling fan base in the MLS is TFC by far but they're not americans

This is from like page 4, but Sporting KC travels really well as well. Record for the largest group of away fans belongs to SKC.

Colorado, I was just posting off memory and could have sworn it was a record.

I could be wrong, I'll do some research.

Yea I was thinking thats pretty much the closest place for yall

Big time away support is just something we wont have in the MLS.

I know alot of the teams on the each coast plan one big away trip bringing like 500k fans.

But the willingness of TFC and Montreal to do it week in and week out is nuts.

Indy 11 (NASL) brought ~30-50 fans to Atlanta on Saturday, and I thought they were nuts for that. Traveling from Indy to Atlanta for a soccer game when your best player, by far, is Kleberson

That was a club record.

Your point still stands though. For how far away everyone is from us we are definitely up there in terms of travel. Took 750 to Dallas (8 hrs) last year, over 900 to Colorado(9 hours) in March, and have consistently taken over 500 to Chicago (8 hours) multiple times a year over the last few seasons.

And FTR, there were 2,500 TFC fans at that Columbus game during their inaugural season. They don't travel all that well because they suck .

The vuvuzela comment was obviously a joke. And are you denying that some of the worst floppers in soccer aren't from Europe?

Look everyone here is a soccer fan there's no need for hyperbole and embellishment we can be reasonable. Are some MLS games amazing? Yes. Portland vs Seattle can compete with any sporting even in the country. On other hand do the vast majority of mls games compare with the vast majority of say big time SEC football games? No. Unless you're including the specter of violence and death as a plus for atmosphere, there have been LSU vs bama and LSU vs Florida games in recent years that would compete with anything Europe has to offer. An 11am game against Mississippi state? Lot of soccer games have better atmosphere.

It's all relative. You're also comparing a sport that routinely pack 90+ thousand vs a sport that for the most part is in the 40 thousand range. Apples and oranges

no not really

nope

Ive been to soccer matches with 50k people that make those 90k person college or 70k+ NFL games look like amature hour. In terms of noise its unreal.

The american sports scene is not what it used to be and it sucks we have lost that. Long gone are the days of 20 dollar tickets and everyone in your section keeping the same seats every year and being there every game.

Yet in Europe best believe those Ultras and Firms are there every weekend.

Were you at the lsu vs Florida game in 07 or the lsu vs Bama game last year? Or a Monday night saints game? I'm not saying football game can get at that level consistently bc we don't have unemployed neo nazis taking out their life's frustrations on other fans, but at it's peak American sports can still reach that level

no but you are using outliers

Saints lulz can't take a fan base serious that was almost non existent before 2006.

We are not talking about Eastern Europe and Russia

Which is very rare now days. The glory years of the 80/90's are gone With bleacher seats at NFL games and tickets cheap enough everyone in your neighborhood could go. Crowded noise pumped in and jumbotrons telling you to make noise are so awesome.

MLS is at least bringing something new and refreshing and most the fan bases are getting better every year.

You can't deny that it happens much more often in Europe than it does here. I'm not denying that it does happen in the MLS, but it's painful to watch foreign matches sometimes because of this.
