he came up through the American youth system before heading to Dortmund. That makes him much more relatable to our youth
I actually don't think it matters one bit that CP is American and played youth soccer stateside. If one of our German American boys were doing the things Pulisic has done the last 9 months or so, we would be just as pumped and the kids would be just as into him. Pulisic is 18 years old and a top 10-15 young player in the world. We wouldn't like a Germarican any less if he were doing the exact thing. As long as he's wearing a US shirt and ballin out, he would be a sensation regardless of his birthplace and the route he took to playing for the US.

From a fan perspective, no, of course not. I'm talking about from a youth development perspective that could galvanize our young players in the US youth systems. Before Pulisic, there was never really any player to point to and say, "see this kid, he learned his soccer skills in America and now he is making a difference in champions league for a top european club."
Pulisic's present and hopefully future could lay the ground work for more kids like him to make the successful transition from US youth ranks to Europe.

I understand what you're saying and I agree the players coming from the American youth programs are getting better and better. I just don't think CP's success at such a young age will have anything to do with this.
The reason for our lack of success developing players wasn't that kids didn't have an example to look at that did it before then. It's because we didn't have enough great players. I agree that you will start seeing more and more Americans doing similar things to what CP is doing, but it won't be because he came along and showed them the way. It will be because the player development here has gotten better, and that produces better players.

You have to look at it from both ways though, not just from the view of our youth players but also from Euro youth scouts.
They see that Dortmund found a gem in Pulisic, it gives more incentive to other clubs to try and match that.
Sports in general is a copycat business. There is no Lebron James without Michael Jordan and there is no MJ without Pete Maravich.

Yes and the coaching here was far inferior. The gaps in both are closing.

Let me be clear, there are a lot of reasons why soccer has struggled to grab a foothold in this country... most of it is due to lack of good coaching at the youth level... but also because a lot of young athletes don't see it as a viable "profession". Pulisic making a name for himself not only as "an american in europe" but as "a good player in europe, regardless of nationality" brings more exposure stateside.

This part makes sense.

It's a shame. But he's overrated anyway

Agreed. Many factors at play here. The potential of the next couple generations of players coming through is very exciting to think about.

I know it's been said a lot previously, but I'd like to see him on some muscle weight. He looks like a toothpick out there.

Well, he's a 5-foot-8 18-year old playing a grown man's game.

What's his ceiling? When he matures and is mid twenties could he be a legit top ten player in the world. He's so good at 18 and makes it look easy.
No. Come on.

Well, based on your argument, I'm now convinced Pulisic has no chance to be a top 10 player.

Seriously. No ones saying he's definitely going to be top ten in the world. Idk how you'd even pick a top ten in the world considering the variety of ways you could measure that, but pick whatever ten you think it is and look at where they were at age 18. I promise you won't find 10 players who were for sure on a better path at age 18.

What does his height and incorrect age have to do with gaining muscle? I'm impressed by what he can do given his size, but gaining some muscle weight could benefit him.

Ok.
I can name multiple off the top of my head.
Messi,ronaldo,rooney,dybala,kane,
Martial, alli, tielemans, depay, sterlings all had more potential and on a higher trajectory at 18 than Christian Pulisic. CP can be a great player but to say no 18 year old had a for sure better path is utterly ridiculous. Good god.

He has great touch. He is one of those players where the ball sticks to his foot.
