I desparately hope it's Cameron. Cameron made a few bad mistakes, but we need his speed and athleticism on the field.

Cameron's mishit was unfortunate as much as anything in that it landed at Nani's feet. Those kind of mishits happen in the box all the time - hell, Chile just did it about four times on one clearance in the first half.

Hanging the second goal on Cameron is horseshite.

The forward is ghosting in behind him, and there's two others to be aware of, since no one else is back. Someone (Johnson) has to let him know that the forward's coming, or has to go with him. Neither happened, apparently.

Beasley is where he needs to be. Omar is in la-la land. I guess he's shading toward Ronaldo, but he's so foot slow that he'd be worthless in space against Ronaldo. His big arse needs to be in the box. Bradley, Jones and Beckerman all appear to be marking the referee. And everyone's wonderboy, Yedlin, the "defender" with all the speed and fresh legs, who'd just come on 15 minutes prior? Furthest away from the play and spectating, instead of busting arse to help Johnson with the two guys right around him.

And lastly, WHAT THE frick are we doing with everybody sprinting back from the attacking end up a goal with 30 seconds left in the game? Stick Wondo's heels at the midfield stripe, put everybody else behind him and clear to the far end.

It's like they never thought they be in that situation and had no idea what to do.

All Cameron's fault my arse.

I never thought about this, but you're probably right.

In rec soccer, everyone plays 4-4-2 and waits for the midfield to disappear, and split into a 5 DEF and 5 FWD game - then attack the middle.

3-5-2 looks wildly foreign to opponents.

Especially if its:

----------GK----------
----------DEF---------
------DEF------DEF---
MID---MID-MID---MID
-----------MID---------
-----FWD------FWD---

It looks like there is someone everywhere all the time. As long as your two wide players don't drift too far in and your CMs and DEFs stay central, it's a real bitch to break down without losing too much attack. The only spot to attack is the corners behind the wide mids, and if people can fire in crosses and beat you in the air Brian McBride style in rec league - God bless 'em.

You and I are in 100% agreement on this. Maybe Cameron could have done a better job finding someone to mark, but where was the communication? Cameron was in a good position in the space he went to. It was just a perfect cross. People just want to find someone to blame. But blaming Cameron for that goal is wrong.

I agree. Our being so far up the field was the main issue, as it made Cameron (and the other defenders) have to retreat and face our goal. They are then unable to see any oncoming offensive players. That means they are 100% reliant upon communication. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't, but GC certainly seemed surprised that he was there.

THere was ZERO reason for us to be so high up the pitch. And you could see Jurgen telling everyone to get back just before then. He knew it was risky.

Funny how soccer's considered to be an "unpopular" (not big 3) sport then when new fans show up they're ridiculed and chastised for lack of knowledge. Lots of elitism on this board

Same people said Yedlin and Davis would never see the field. They were wrong. Klinsmann has showed he is willing to change things up. All I did was make a suggestion and it wasn't that far fetched.

In short, these people don't know as much as they think they do. I'm comfortable with that knowledge.

I am going to pretend that Davis still never saw the field. I cannot believe he was called up. There is changing it up (Yedlin for pace) and being a fricking moron (starting Davis).

Yeah, but we're all elitist hipsters if we do so here, because, well, people say so.

That's the issue though. We always touted ourselves as better than the Rant, than the OT, etc.

We're not. This board has turned into the same crap. 4 years ago we'd just explain how Besler coming in for Fab wouldn't work. Try to help the new people understand the game better. Now it's "LOL, her derp, you're retarded," etc.

I've been trying to avoid this board during the WC, not because of the nativity of the new posters, but because of the assholes the frequent posters have become.

We made it through one game of Gonzalez. He gave us a great effort. I don't want to pull that trigger again though.

I like Green. I really do. Replacing Bradley with him is just wrong. Bradley is getting much too much flak. Also, Green does not play the same position, so how do you suggest altering the formation?

As for defending Green, Belgium lacks pace, so that helps him. However, they're physically imposing and would manhandle him. It would be like throwing Bambi into the lions did. Bambi might outrun them for a while, but he's getting mauled eventually.

Whoops. Thought you were on the hype trains which are running opposite directions for Bradley and Green. Congrats on making me look stupid
