I'm told U.S. Soccer has reached an agreement with Bruce Arena to have him return as #USMNT head coach. #DominosFalling

Let us talk about him here. No, he's not the longterm choice IMO but he's a pretty smart option for now. He knows how to qualify for a World Cup and he's not afraid to shake things up.

One thing he must do is talk to all foreign-born players and apologize (if he hasn't already), just to not create an immediate schism.

As expected. At least we'll have a style of play under him. The US teams I grew up watching in the mid-2000s were fun to watch with young LD and Beasley. Played some great attacking soccer.

Looking forward to see what he'll do.

This was posted by just a random on twitter (not someone reporting actual news is what I mean) so it's not worth posting his handle... interesting to see you guys/gals take on it

I continue hearing Bruce Arena's name for #USMNT. If so, I'd like him for this cycle only. Caleb Porter is my long-term hope.

I don't think any of them will turn down call-ups but what a dumb thing for him to say when he knew he had a shot at the job.

Good choice to right the ship for 18 and gives plenty of time to go full penetration to get Simeone for post 18

Oscar Pareja would be a good option for after Russia. Peter Vermes is another one I'd really like to consider. Caleb Porter's past struggles with the national setup kind of have me worried about him.

Bruce can be a bit of an a-hole. We forget about it, but he pissed plenty of people off when he was the HNIC of two world cup cycles. I'm sure they discussed it as part of the meetings to hire him.

I like the Pareja idea, other than fricking me over here with FC Dallas. I do not want Caleb Porter.

Wouldn't mind this baw.

I don't know that they could have pulled a long term solution right now with the WC cycle having already started. Bruce is a great stop gap for Russia and gives US Soccer time to get the right guy for the future.

He can be real abrasive and argumentative. I'm drawing a blank on specific instances but he's not afraid to talk shite to people.

Hendo is spot on. He can also be very blunt. He doesn't take any bullshite.

A few quotes from Bruce:

quote:

Players on the national team should be American. If they’re born in other countries, we aren’t making progress

quote:

I don’t want to blow a lot of hot air … but I’m pretty successful at what I do. There’s reasons for it

quote:

Clint had a lot of ability. He has a nose for the goal. We have an expression for some players – for Clint, we continually said, ‘He tries shite

He is a safe hire, to try and get shite straight, while looking for a permanent replacement for the Whole program and departments.

You couldn't ask for a better 'gap' coach.
