I've never been a huge fan of both Donovan and Dempsey. More so Dempsey than Donovan.

I'm just trying to figure out why. Is it a personality thing?

It's not about his talent. I can't really explain it.

I've liked Bradley more as an outfield player from this current cycle. Tim Howard is probably my favorite USMNTer of all-time.

Johannsson is obviously my pick for the future.

I would say I liked Dempsey more than Donovan, too.

And I think Jurgen is the same.

He cuts Donovan, and then he makes Dempsey captain because he thinks he plays too selflishly.

im not really a dempsey fan, either, but that's because he is highly overrated when playing internationally.

The thing with Landon for me is that watching him play in the 2002 World Cup is what really started my "serious" soccer fandom.

They both just disappear for long stretches of the game.

Dempsey is slightly overrated when playing against top competition. Fulham could afford to make him their main man.

He could not fill a role for Tottenham Hotspur. He's a huge defensive liability, and he isn't good enough to be a 9 or 10 in the Premier League. It's hilarious that people think he left the glory of the Premier League for the Sounders. Dude was fixin' to ride the pine, and we sucked.

He could have played for a lower table club still, but that's about it.

I totally understand that.

I totally understand the anger.

I don't understand the lengths some are going on here with this firing and losing talk.

I'm logging off. I'll probably stay off until the UCL Final. (Hold your applause, VKC.) Don't want to personally go through another day of this on here.

Again, this is why it's so hard for me.

Donovan and that team made me a hardcore soccer fan. It's just killing me right now that our best player ever has his international career end so unceremoniosly.

That, plus, I just can't see Brad Davis being a better LM option than Landy.

I don't think there's really much out of the ordinary here. Doesn't seem like you're being personally attacked.

Yeah, I did start a thread titled "frick Jurgen" but you can bet your arse I don't want this team to lose or him to get fired (because that means we probably played like shite).

How any American soccer fan could not be a fan of Clint Dempsey is absolutely beyond me. The dude has made more of his talent than maybe any other top level athlete I can think of.

Which is why this thread is lame.

Hendo, I did watch in 02. I was also eight and have not watched much of it on YouTube or whatever since then. I've already admitted I'm a bad American soccer fan because I didn't get butthurt about Landon. Hell, I support United. Whatever. Nothing is going to change anyone's mind here.

I don't think I'm being personally attacked, I've just wasted too much time discussing/arguing this whole thing this evening. I don't want to do it all again tomorrow. Don't see anything constructive coming from the Landon discussion. I'm sure any talk of the surprising Yedlin choice, one I wish we had more attention to talk about, will devolve into a Landon discussion.

SFP said it best. If you're going to be an a-hole, you better be right.

Jurgen chose to be an egomaniac and an a-hole tonight. If it works, more power to him. If it doesn't work, he should be gone.

Hopefully it won't come to that, but he chose to go that route.

Looking at it logically, we are the 4th most likely team to get out of that group, with or without Donovan. But Klinsmann has made this World Cup about himself (and his brass balls and how he "shakes up the status quo" or whatever bullshite he tells himself), which is something a coach shouldn't do under any cirucmstance.

Today felt like the coaching equivalent of Joey Crawford dancing around in circles while giving a technical to Tim Duncan for blinking.

That's where I am.

Landon is better than Brad Davis. In every way. Period. No discussion.

I didn't expect him to be in the starting eleven. But everyone knows this would have been his last WC. Short of having an American up and coming superstar taking Landon's place, for me, there is no reason for someone with inferior talent, who is OLDER than Landon to make the 23.

None of these bullshite platitudes pass the smell test.

The two best players and leaders of this team - Bradley and Howard - have stated publicly the need for Landon.

This WC should have been Landon's farewell tour and I can't forgive Klinsmann for robbing us of that. Not for someone like Brad Davis.

I have not said Klinsmann should be fired for it but I won't stop posting about what I think about his decision.

I'll root like hell and raise the flag for our boys but I won't be doing the same for Klinsmann.

Don't think anyone said you're a bad American soccer fan either. It was a legitimate question.
