It'll be interesting to see who of Eastmond, Coquelin and Frimpong pans out. All seem like high-level players, but I can't tell which one will be good enough for Arsenal.

Eastmond looks very calm and composed with the ball than the other two guys..

Yeah but you can never tell with guys that young. It would be wonderful if all three could make it at Arsenal. Would give us insanely good depth.

Bee has a tender groin at the mo'

But when he's back, he's going to crash into defenses like a reckless, overconfident sports car driver.

munday funday stats, presented in the form of a compilment sandwich: bad news bookended with inspiring tidbits.

quote:

18 - Excluding penalties, Arsenal scored three more goals from set pieces than Stoke City (15) in the 2009-10 Premier League. Curious.

23 - Only the three relegated sides & Wigan conceded more goals than Arsenal from set pieces in the 2009-10 Premier League. Flaw.

Only Burnley (8) conceded more goals on the counter attack than Arsenal in 2009-10 (6).

Bendtner created a scoring chance every 65 mins

dessert:

quote:

ON THIS ARSENAL DAY Anelka signed for Real Madrid, producing £22 million profit. Arsenal built a new training ground & bought Thierry Henry.

OH shite, you get a fortune cookie too:

Nice tidbits.

Anyone else getting worried that Fabregas and RvP aren't going to play against Liverpool? They both won't feature against Legia Warsaw, and neither will Song, Diaby, or Denilson. So either we'll be fielding a squad lacking match fitness and sharpness at Anfield or young Guns like Wilshere and Frimpong will have to step up. Could make for a rough season opener...

absolutely worried. luckily Chamakh has looked very good all around. however we have no CAM that can match the prowess of cesc. he's our best player so obviously he's not easily replaced. I imagine our midfield w/o Cesc would be

Nasri--Theo
---Song---

which isn't so bad since Nasri as CAM does a lot of work and is a superb dribbler

I would imagine if RvP and Cesc aren't ready to go Wenger would be faced with a tough decision of whether or not to play Nasri at RW or CAM. I figure he would play Nasri at CAM and Theo up top on the right. Hopefully at least one of Song/Diaby/Denilson will be healthy enough to stick in the midfield. I would really worry if Frimpong was forced into action. He's a great talent, but I think he's at least a year away. Would be a rough place for him to get his first taste of the Premier League.

I'm also curious to see how he uses Wilshere. Will he get more PT this season than Rosicky? One of those two are almost assuredly going to start against 'Pool with our injury situation.

Oh, and I can't wait to see the attacking triumvirate of Arshavin/Chamakh/RvP unleashed. Will be fun to watch.

Song isn't injured is he?? Just assumed he was getting post-WC rest. I'm honestly worried about Arshavin's trackback ability at the moment. I hope in 2 weeks he can get near match fit. He's definitely been huffing and puffing more than anyone so far.

I don't think either Frimps or Wilshere will start a PL game for the first couple of weeks. They'll definitely see more CL and cup-tie action in the beginning, imo. Right now they're both suffering english media hype narratives. we should be excited but I don't think to the extent that will match the optimistic frenzy that's been germinating as of late.

I'd like to maybe see us come out in a 4-4-2 against liverpool

That's was Arsene says. It's on Arsenal.com...

I don't entirely disagree. In a perfect world, I don't think either would start a PL game for awhile, but considering Song, Diaby, and Denilson are all suffering from injury (and our players never come back on time from injuries) I fear they will be forced into action.

I think we've fully shifted to the 4-3-3...I'd be surprised to see us revert to the 4-4-2.

I'm going to predict

Arshavin-Chamakh-Theo
Nasri-Rosicky-Frimpong
Clichy-TV-Kos-Sagna
Almunia

while i love that we're continually aggressive on offense, it might not be a bad idea to shift back defensively in a match when our two best players are in doubt against a good team with a notorious environment. if we come out in a 4-3-3 I'd be surprised if our line was all that high.

That is the same line-up I see Wenger putting out there.

Has Rosicky played in a central midfield position for us ever? I'd rather Wilshere play in that position even if he is young. He has PL experience and has looked stellar this preseason.

Yes. That is his preferred position.

For his national team yes, but I'm pretty sure that he's played almost exclusively on the wing and as a wide midfielder for us. Part of the problem last season (see first Sunderland game) was that he wanted to roam centrally from the wing rather than provide width, which was the same problem with Nasri. A midfield of Rosicky, Nasri, and Frimpong would get overrun in a big way. It's more likely we'll come out with Eastmond paired with Frimpong and Nasri.
