Yea I agree. For the most part our defense was very good. There's a reason Cech won the golden gloves. We had many clean sheets. The thing is, like you said, we have moments where we are ripped to shreds one game then next game clean sheet. I do think we dropped points from January to April because of our lack of goals though.

I really think if we committed to the low block, we could have won the league last year without a striker addition. Only one team in the league scored more than 70 goals, if I recall correctly, and it was mostly our defensive lapses that cost us games. I still think if we commit to the low block we will be hard to beat. It is the high block/press situation where our positioning becomes especially poor.

That falls on the coach. I wonder about his ability as a coach and man manager pretty frequently. Why don't we play as a counter team like Leicester? Wenger just never seems pragmatic, ever.

He is pragmatic when there is a danger we won't be top four. Otherwise he is committed to these obscure attacking principles he has.

Arsene plays a middle that presses too aggressively. He leaves the last third vulnerable with defenders who are too slow (Per) to adjust. There is always the danger of the quick over the top or through the gap break. This is fixable if you have a really physical holding midfielder. I am hoping Mustafi fits this bill.

Not his position. Think you meant to say Xhaka.

Speaking of Mustafi, I won't rest easy until the presser announcing "he's signed."

With Arsenal and Arsene, there's always the last-second frickup to worry about.

I came here to ask the very same thing. Xhaka has been brilliant.

Wenger confirms the signings: “We have bought two players, Mustafi and Perez, now we can integrate them into the squad.”

20 minutes in to his first start.

So with the signings and 3 points does this mean we all think Arsenal will win the league again?

He's a good player. Just have to make sure you have a replacement for him because he will get suspended at some point.

Whew. Shaky second half.

Generally speaking, I will take less possession for more accurate offensive play, and we got that.

Our second-half problems seemed to stem from poor marking. Ah well, I hope Mustafi can be integrated sooner than later. Holding is earnest but green, as per his errant backward pass that almost cost us a goal.

Have we given up on Chambers at CB?

I loved the first half, but that second half still has me concerned about how we will fare against the top clubs.

Chambers is probably going out on loan. I don't think we win the league but top 4 is a strong possibility. If we had a manager who was strong tactically then we may have had a chance. Also we need either Giroud or Perez to put away chances.

3-0 at half is a tough lead to stay 100% switched on with, especially on the road against a decent team. I'm not saying we'll be great against top teams, but I think taking the foot off the gas when you've got a mid table team seemingly, or in this case actually, put away is not really indicative of that one way or the other

Who said that? Midfield is stacked now with ozil, cazorla, Xhaka, Elneny, Ramsey when he comes back and hopefully Wilshere stays fit. Plus coquelin

Top four looks like a better possibility but our positioning still sucks. Tactically we look clueless at times. How someone can be at the same club for twenty years and still not have tactical shape and defensive shape figured out boggles the mind.

Arsene tends to let his players figure it out. It works when you have talent like the Invincibles but we need to defend as a team. I thought in the 1st half we were solid. But in the 2nd half we lost all our shape and Watford was applying pressure. You could see Koscienly was visibly frustrated with our defending.

Hey. Alexis can play CF after all. He just needs ozil behind him.

Fun first half. Nice lift before the inter lull. Also I bet $100 on an Arsenal win so that's double the fun.
