I thought Alexis and Welbeck played alright.

played well, yeah. my rage after the game probably blinded me for a bit but I really think Sanchez is the only one who played well. Danny drifted far to narrow in the first half before the substitutions and was dispossessed like everyone else far too easily.

plus missing sitters like giroud is a little off putting.

I will say this, Danny, like he always does, ran his arse off and gave effort (like Sanchez) even when dispossessed and tried to run the ball back down.

Today was horrible but they have to regroup. Arsenal were written off a few years back and if it weren't for that RVP miss against Milan, they could've pulled off the task. Absolutely need all 3 points from this poor Everton side this weekend.

I don't see how you can't blame Arsene. This team shows no spine at times. its his job to get these players to play, if not, he needs diff players or needs to retire.

The players were there to score, they just didn't. I don't blame a manger for that.

Giroud scores the sitter, Welbz does the same, Mert doesn't forget how slow he is, Kondogbia's shot doesn't deflect wonderfully, we might win 2-0, 3-0, 3-1.

I just can't blame the manager for player's misses and woeful positioning. It's on them to do their part.

I get pissed when media just shrug Arsenal aside, but I just get too optimistic with shitty wins. Its the same shite time and time again.

All of those goals were counter attacking goals. This was a repeat of the drubbing at the hands of Liverpool last year. Arsene hasn't learned. He hasn't trained Per to hold position. The attack let us down, for sure, with our wings both coming too narrow and no one able to finish. But to be exposed that badly, and repeatedly on defense is inexcusable. That falls squarely on Arsene. We've been here before and his failure to change tactics, to not play a high line against speedy counter attacking sides, is so amateurish that it's sad. I believe that there are other managers out there who would get more from this team.

And why the frick do we settle for subpar goalkeepers?

Tottenham have Lloris.
ManU have De Gea.
Chelsea have two world class keepers.
City have Joe Hart, who while not great is certainly better than our two.
Southampton has Forrester.
Pool have Mignolet.

And who the frick do we have?

But this isn't the first time they haven't done their part. When it happens time and time again, when do you say enough is enough? We looked like we could run away with this in the first five minutes, then bam. Team just goes into a lull. It happens way too often. Something is inherently wrong with the mental make up of this team.

I just came to the last page of this thread, but has it been said why Nacho didn't play? I like Gibbs a lot, but it seemed that we were killed by having 2 attack focused fullbacks.

Wenger...and that is why so many of us want to give him a watch, say "thanks for the distant memories" and hire someone with a clue how football is played in 2015.

The problem was Mert...he is a complete cluster. How the heck does he play for a Champions league team?

I agree with the players looking off on more occasions than just tonight. I just don't know how you can always attribute that to a manager.

It's easy to look to the top and say the manager is absolutely responsible for the team and results, but that is an unreasonable viewpoint for me. Some games the players play great, sometimes they play poor, and many times is has nothing to do with the manager, tactics, etc.

It just appeared to me that Arsenal missed their changes to win this game and Monaco scored theirs. I didn't feel it was tactically flawed (like Liverpool and City from last year).

Edit: I realize I'm in the minority about Arsene's responsibility in the game's outcome, but I see players miss wide open goals and I can't come to terms with blaming the manager. I mean, if we're playing Mert up top and he misses an open goal, then yeah, WTF Arsene.

the one i feel is we cannot keep putting per out there. at this point he is a liability, plus every time he had the ball in the back he was so hesitant and it took forever for the ball to be played out.

So I avoided posting yesterday after that mess because of the extreme emotions.

But I'm just as pissed today. WTF happened?

Per Mertesacker happened. He was as bad as any professional athlete I have ever seen in any sport. He was Sonny Liston goes down to phantom punch bad, he was Bill Buckner between the legs bad, Danny White when the game was on the line bad.

That last goal was so unbelievably terrible and I saw it coming from a mile away. 2-1 down at least you still have some kind of chance

Finally got to watch the disaster a little while ago. I would say that in spite of the score and abysmally poor performance by half of the team, the result still should have been about a draw. There were at least 3 missed easy chances and several other missed chances. The 3rd goal just resulted from Ox spazzing out when trying to go forward, which really wasn't intelligent or necessary.

It still is frustrating though. We really should have scaled back and not played such a high line once Ox scored, given what had transpired previously in the game. As someone else said, that was coming a mile away.
