Since the field expanded in 03-04

3 German teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the CL.

Compared with 6 Spanish, 5 English, 4 Italian, and even 5 French.

Lol, yea taking a sample of 12+ years of the most recent data that directly applies to the conversation is "moving the goalposts".

Probably what I'd say too.

If Bayern were removed from the equation the Bundesliga would easily be the 5th best league in Europe. Actually would be pretty even with Portugal for 6th in terms of European performance since field expansion over a decade ago. Even with Bayern it is significantly weaker than England and Spain and on par with Italy.

Both the German and French leagues are weak because of financial restrictions, but they produce players of top technical quality at a much higher rate than England. Their model isn't as sexy, but the FA's in both countries have aligned the interests of the league with the interests of the national team extremely well.

You have your biased opinions and I respect you trying to stick up for the country you lived in but you have nothing but name calling whereas I have over 10 years of results on my side.

Just curious, Randy. What are your rankings, say 1-8?

The German league very damn good, very technical and very exciting to watch.

If it was such a shite league outside Bayern then answer why it is about to take one of the EPL's champions league spots if this recent trend continues.

Right at this exact moment...

1. Spain

2. England
3a. Italy
3b. Germany
5. France
6. Portugal
7. Dutch

In terms of overall recent history, prestige, and potential for the future...

1a. Spain
1b. England
3. Italy
4. Germany
5. France
6. Portugal
7. Dutch

Results, which are the only thing that really matters, are yet back this up.

It won't, so there's that. But if Germany can outperform England over the course of a few years and earn an extra obviously my opinion would change over that time because it would be backed by results.

However, right now the results favor what I'm saying and it's not really debatable.

Actually, I think the Bundesliga is going to just jump them in coefficient rankings to #2.

Italy takes one of the spots back if next year's European season goes like this one has.

First off, Germany can't "earn an extra spot." They have four, just like England and Spain. But Germany is close to passing England for the second place.

Here are the UEFA coefficients: England is going down, while Germany is going up... (the second to last number is for this current season). Germany has outperformed England in three of the five seasons. LINK

2 England 18.357 15.250 16.428 16.785 13.571 80.391
3 Germany 15.666 15.250 17.928 14.714 15.571 79.129

(Now, England isn't in much danger of falling out of the 4-spot group at the moment. Italy is still a decent bit behind.)

We can cherrypick numbers from any given time span, but these are the five seasons UEFA uses to pick Champions League spots. What they're saying is correct in that, if recent trends continue, Germany is about to pass England. But Italy or France would have to take England's fourth UCL spot.

Lol using your metrics, in 2010-2011 Portugal was the best league in Europe.

Except wait, they didn't have even a single team in the CL knockout round.

Nice "facts".

Not my metrics. They're UEFA's. And they account for the 5 previous seasons.

Link to where Portugal had the highest coefficient in 2010-2011? I'm pretty sure it was England.

Regardless of whose they are they are obviously tremendously flawed. The LINK is in WSE's post. The bolded # is the country with the highest.

I don't know anyone who says coefficients are perfect, but that's why they account for 5 years of all European competition so league rankings aren't based off one season.

Being perfect and being that flawed are two entirely different things.
