Any correlation between the EPL and the English National Team for you?

I watch a lot of Fox Soccer Channel and listen to the soccer station on SiriusXM. Over the last few weeks, I've noticed that there is discussion about the English National team almost as much as the USMNT. I'm not talking about the England based stations that SiriusXM airs. I'm talking about American based shows. The English team is discussed so much that I've started to wonder what the reason is. Does anyone here really care about the ENT? Do you follow them second after the USMNT? The only idea I could come up with is that these broadcasting companies assume that since the EPL is so big, we must all be interested in the ENT.

It is probably because most of the people in American that follow footy follow the EPL so their is that familiarity. The fact that we speak the same language doesn't hurt either. Plus the England team is usually a soap opera so there is plenty of content to fill a radio or TV program.

No, at least not me.

No. France is second in my heart to the USMNT, but no where near.

For years my national team preference was
US
england
Germany
bunch of others tied after that.
Even more tied that I could care more or less about
Mexico
since the German world cup, Germany has slowly overtaken england.
I think the language, familiarity with players, the couple of trips I've made to England, and also meeting elnglish fans at various bars watching world cup games all factor into this.

I care in the sense that LFC always seems to have quite a few players on the team and I want to see them do well. But if they win or lose, It doesnt bother me.
After the USA, I usually follow and root for the South American teams in international competitions, with Uruguay being the team du jour...

Growing up I liked them and the Dutch. Lately I've found myself much preferring England though with the way the FA has handled itself lately and the one and only English captain getting shafted I don't find myself caring as much anymore.

With Rooney taking a bigger role and Welbeck starting to break out on the ENT, I've paid attention to them a bit more.
But the soap opera that is the Dutch national team always gets my attention first in Euros and the World Cup (outside of the Yanks, of course). Big fan of Sneijder, RVP, and the constantly out-of-position Jetro Willems.

is fsc still based out of canada? either way probably has to do with the epl being their main attraction. i like to keep an eye on england but don't follow them as much as scotland or usa. lot of epl fans can keep up with their players on the england team that way.

According to Wiki, Fox Soccer is headquartered in Houston.

Even English soccer fans hate the ENT. Mostly because their favorite club players get hurt or worn out playing for country.

I root for England as long as them winning doesn't hurt the USMNT

I'm a USMNT first and a Dutch fan after that. I've never cared about England. I don't dislike them, but I don't pull for them either.
Pretty much all my friends are England fans though, some more so than USMNT fans which really irritates me.

My main point of this thread was to bitch about the amount of coverage I have to hear about them. I'd rather get info on a national team with a chance to win something.

WAIT! Are you saying Rooney can't captain this side to World Cup greatness one red card at a time? War will not be pleased....

He's no John Terry, so expect a dropoff. England won't even get a chance to lose miserably in penalties under Rooney's captaincy.

So really your main objective was to get a dig in at the English national team? Got it. Wouldn't expect anything else from a Gooner. Interesting that an Arsenal fan would desire to only hear about teams with a chance to win something.
Maybe one day Arsenal will get some Englishmen back in the side to give them the bottle they lack to win anything.
