A look at possible wing options for the USMNT

Darlington Nagbe, 25, Portland Timbers
Now a US citizen, with all the tools to play any attacking midfield position in a 4-2-3-1, it seems only a matter of time before the Liberian-American makes his debut. He might be the best player in MLS when it comes to making quick runs with the ball at his feet, but he needs to improve his scoring touch to become a more complete midfielder. The touch is there, as made obvious by his 2012 MLS goal of the year, but he has to become a more consistent goal threat. He scored last night against the Galaxy, making Omar Gonzalez look slow(er) in the process. Currently one of the most-fouled players in the league, it's easy to see the quality that Nagbe could bring to the USMNT.
Sebastian Lletget, 23, LA Galaxy
After a rough 6 years at West Ham, where he only made one appearance despite some in the academy calling him their best product since Frank Lampard, Lletget quickly adapted to MLS, becoming a starter for a stacked LA Galaxy side. He has great technique compared to others in our pool, and his work rate on both sides of the ball is nothing less than stellar. He never gives up on a play, is a constant threat close to goal, and has the ability to play centrally in more of a creator role, although this hasn't been the case with LA due to the arrival of Gerrard. Regardless, he has already scored 7 times despite not joining the league until May. Possibly LA's best signing this year, it's no wonder why " they love da boy." Fun fact: Terrence Boyd called Lletget the most talented player on the 2012 Olympic qualifying team, a team which included Mix, Adu, Morales, Shea, and Agudelo.
Ethan Finlay, 25, Columbus Crew
Finlay is one of the fastest players in MLS, and his partnership with Kei Kamara has paid dividends for Gregg Berhalter's side. Hard working with a great cross, good movement around the box, and finishing that seems to be improving, he has put up great numbers this year, tallying 10 goals and 13 assists. The only American with better assist numbers is Feilhaber (14, with 10 goals). Scored another goal last night against TFC. No worries over losing him to the Canucks, as Canadian citizenship requirements make him ineligible despite his Canadian father.
Mike Grella, 28, NYRB
Former Leeds player/sufferer, League One journeyman, and Macklemore lookalike, Grella has thrived since coming back to the states, continuing to start despite the acquisition of new DP Gonzalo Veron. Not exactly speedy, but he has an eye for goal and solid technique. Played really well this past weekend, scoring the fastest goal in MLS history, and had a sick volley last month against New England.
Jerome Kiesewetter, 22, Stuttgart
One of the more impressive players during Olympic qualifying, Kiesewetter was a constant nuisance down the right side. His pinpoint crosses/passes were responsible for helping JMo get golden boot at the tourney, and he also drew multiple penalties thanks to his quickness in the box, as well as scoring some from the run of play. It would not be altogether surprising to see Kiesewetter get a call up in the January window. While camp cupcake is usually reserved for MLS/Scandinavian players, he is not seeing much time for Stuttgart.
Gboly Ariyibi, 20, Chesterfield
Born in the US to Nigerian parents, Ariyibi was raised in England after moving there as an infant. After coming up through the Southampton academy with the likes of Luke Shaw and James Ward Prowse, Ariyibi was eventually released, making a quick stop at Leeds before finding a home in Chesterfield, where he is supposedly a starter. He turned down a contract to join Burnley, then in the Premier League, to make the move. He looked great on the wing during his time with the U-23s, and it's a shame he didn't get to show what he could do against Honduras in the semifinal, given his strong performance against Panama. He's an extremely fast player, strong on the ball, and agile. FYI, his name is pronounced "Boly," and yes he speaks with an English accent.

I'm excited about all of those guys.

Really liked what I saw from Kiesewetter during Olympic qualifying. He was a name I didn't really no much about, but he stood out real quickly.

Very informative and well formatted post

I think Nagbe is the real deal. Whether he gets a shot is up to how well he speaks German at this point, but he seems to have to skill.

Nagbe is boss, and the type of creative player we badly need.
Can't wait to see Jurgen force him to play up top then drop him for not scoring after 2 friendlies!

Great effort and work. Very informative post. Probably the best SB in awhile.
However, if king Coach K doesn't care then it doesn't matter.

Appreciated the write-up. Hope to see some of this new blood get a chance.

grella was pretty good when he'd drift out wide with becchio in the middle and SWAGgrass on the other side. dude deserves a chance IMO
boly would have seen more chances if the team wasn't in so much flux at the time. he basically DGAF when on the ball, which is a quality you want in a pacey winger

Our circa 2009 Mike Grella hype is finally coming to fruition.

I just want Finlay to get a chance. Dude is so fast, and his crosses are gorgeous.

I'd guess Nagbe will get a look in the next call-up. Possibly Lleget and Finlay too.
The younger kids will have to wait. Grella will likely never get the call--he was playing in England's 3rd or 4th tier like a year ago, can't imagine him getting call-ups, no matter how well he's doing in MLS (that's not my reasoning, but the reasoning I think Klinsy would use).

You say that but... Ibarra.

I THINK Nagbe plays mostly through the middle. I just want to see him next time around. Don't really care where he plays as long as he gets his shot.

Kekuta Manneh could get his citizenship soonish, and has said hed be interested in the US over gambia. At 20, hed be a nice prospect to get capped up.

So I did some research on Manneh and found this article:
LINK
He DOES want to play for the US, and he's been commuting to Vancouver from NW Washington State this entire time. Decent read up on him if you're curious.
ETA:
This article, specifically, talks about his citizenship efforts. It seems like September 2016 is the date.

I was going to make a stupid comment about how he should totally live in Point Roberts, but it turns out that that's where he has been living. Point Roberts is an interesting exclave that is not actually connected to Washington, only Canada.
