MID Sebastian Larsson (Sunderland)

Another busy day at work and got back from the Braves game not too long ago.

Let's have a free agent period beginning on Thursday at 9:00 AM CST and ending Friday at 11:59 PM CST.

We will take Wednesday to make sure the last pick is made (sorry for the holdup) and everything is cleaned up and ready to go for the season. I need some sleep and will try to take care of anything tomorrow. Should not need much.

If possible, I will try to do a quick preview on each team. Anyone is more than welcome to write them. Also, best and worst picks of each round would be fun.

GeauxColonel's Draft Analysis

OK, I'm going to go ahead and give my thoughts on best and worst picks of each round and then best and worst overall drafts.

Round 1
This may be the only round where I can't really make a call. Best pick could end up being Costa (Wait For It...) @ #5 if he can stay healthy. But that can be said for several players. Worst pick could end up being Kane (GeauxColonels) @ #4 if Spurs can't get other attacking options going and he can't produce like he did last season.

Round 2
Best: #20 Gylfi Sigurdsson (WarSlamEagle) - maybe this is the Spurs fan in me talking, but I've always loved Gylfi. he didn't get a fair shot at Tottenham (IMO) and he's showing up big time for the Swans. Getting him at the end of round 2 was a steal for WSE
Worst: #15 Theo Walcott (etm512) - No doubt that Walcott is a solid player. However, with a crowded midfield and recent major injury, I'm not sure how confident I would have been picking Walcott this early

Round 3
Best: #23 Juan Mata (BleedPurpleGold) - I'm pretty high on Mata this season...maybe I shouldn't be. I thought about taking him in the 2nd round and was going to take him with the very next pick before BPG beat me to the punch
Worst: #29 Daniel Sturridge (Vicks Kennel Club) - I had initially picked Oscar for this, but given Sturridge's condition (he's made of paper) I had to put him here. He could turn out to be a steal...time will tell

Round 4
Best: #40 Saido Berahino (WarSlamEagle) - I'm surprised he fell this low...maybe it was due to the uncertainty over where he'll be playing most of the season. But, I think this was another steal by WSE
Worst: #32 Angel Di Maria (Vicks Kennel Club) - He was pretty much out the door when the pick was made...no supplemental draft pick is guaranteed to make up the production another player selected here may have produced. And, if Vick wants to keep him until the supplemental, he'll have dead weight on his team for almost a month

Round 5
Best: #48 Phil Jagielka (rdw1690) - A top 3 defender last year going pretty late in the 5th round...I don't see a reason he can't produce at a similar level this season
Worst: #43 Wilfried Bony (The Mick) - I just personally don't like Bony at MCI. Assuming Aguero can stay healthy (that's a BIG if), Bony won't get the minutes other strikers are going to get.

Round 6
Best: #57 Toby Alderweireld (GeauxColonels) - I really like Alderweireld's prospects here...he's going to be a mainstay on Spurs' backline and I think he can produce some big time fantasy points this year
Worst: Erik Lamela (StickyFingaz) - Could be a homer pick here...I like Lamela but he has yet to show that he's comfortable in the English game...and it's not known how many minutes he'll be getting. I think he went several rounds too high.

Round 7
Best: #66 Ryan Bertrand (etm512) - Bertrand is one of those Southampton defenders that always seem to produce solid fantasy points...I think this continues
Worst: #62 Pablo Zabaleta (The Mick) - If I must pick one, I guess I'll go with Zabaleta just because of how much his minutes dropped last season

Round 8
Best: #80 Daly Blind (WarSlamEagle) - Another good pick up by WSE as I think Blind will feature for Man U this season and rack up the points
Worst: #74 Adam Lallana (Tigerstark) - That's a crowded midfield up at Liverpool...I know Lallana is supposed to play a big part, but let's see if he can stay healthy

Round 9
Best: #82 Andre Ayew (The Mick) - If Ayew can live up to all the hype I keep reading about him in that system, this will be a great pick
Worst: #84 Simon Mignolet (GeauxColonels) - In hindsight, maybe taking my 2nd keeper here wasn't as good of an idea as I thought it was....but I still have my reasons for doing so

Round 10
Best: #94 Matt Ritchie (Tigerstark) - If Ritchie can perform even half as good as he did last season for Bournemouth, Tigerstark got a steal
Worst: #99 James Chester (The Mick) - Who? Also, just realized that this cat didn't transfer into the EPL until 7/29....sooooooo technically he wasn't eligible to be drafted. Not sure anyone is going to care though

Round 11
Best: #108 Joleon Lescott (rdw1690) - Was a top 12 defender last season at WBA...good pick taking him so far down in the draft (28th defender overall)
Worst: #103 Gabby Agbonlahor (BleedPurpleGold) - Yes Villa's attacking options dropped this offseason, I just don't see Agbonlahor staying healthy for the whole run...but, I'm not too sure there are many bad picks this late in the draft

Round 12
Best: #113 Jermain Defoe (rdw1690) - Defoe score 61 points in half a season for a shitty Sunderland club....he could get into triple-digits if he can stay healthy
Worst: #112 Edin Dzeko (Vicks Kennel Club) - Yet another pick of a player already out the door....see my discussion of Angel Di Maria for further information

Round 13
Best: #124 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (GeauxColonels) - His health is a concern, but if he can get over this issue he could be one of the steals of the entire draft IMO
Worst: #120 Joe Cole (StickyFingaz) - He's never really played that many minutes....not sure what's changing this season

Round 14
Mostly keepers....I don't really see a best or worst in this group

Round 15
Best: #150 Brad Guzan (StickyFingaz) - Guzan falls to Sticky but he gets a good keeper as his #2....assuming Guzan doesn't drop to Sherwood's #2 choice
Worst: None

Didn't even think about that, he played in EPL last year for Hull. I'll happily swap his sorry arse out if you like.

Also, frick YOU if you don't like my shitty defenders.

Nice list - thanks for doing it.

My thoughts -

Round 1
Best - hazard by WSE was a no brainier at number 1 - good to resist the temptation of going elsewhere. I like silvas (by ETM) potential with city's additions.
Worst - giroud by VICKS could find himself out of a stating role is arsenal pick up a big striker like is rumored.

Round 2
Best - I like my ivanovic pick. Pretty much guaranteed to pick up points every week and will have several weeks with big points. 170 points is easily reachable again.
Worst - Memphis Depay by MICK. High draft for a young guy that may have to adjust to a physically superior league.

Round 3
Best - yaya by MICK. Should be freed up for more offensive points this year
Worst - Oscar by STICKY - I'm not sure he will feature as often this year. Jose seems to have a love/hate relationship with him.

Round 4
Best - Milner by me - playing every week and centrally, will he score the points he did a few years ago when he last played there? Possible he could be a top 3 midfielder if so. I also like barahino by WSE.
Worst - Rodriguez by ETM. Maybe the guy just burned me last year by supposedly being back in December and then never playing whil he sat on my bench for 4 months, but this seems high for a guy that hasn't played in awhile and may not fit the new coach as well as the old coach.

Round 5
Best - bolasie by GEAUXCOL. Improved creativity from the palace midfield should see him increase his output.
Worst - no real worst to me. Maybe tripper by WSE depending upon playing time risk.

Round 6
Best - Courtois by WAIT. Get the best go and some guaranteed points.
Worst - mirallas by MICK. Down year last year and with defeleue on board, his crappy teammate persona may lead to less playing time

Round 7
Best - several, but Darmian by BPG is my favorite. Should get lots of points.
Worst - falcao by STICKY. It's actually a good spot to take the risk, but I'm not sure falcao has what it takes anymore. could pan out - and not a bad pick given the rounds just the only pick with risk in the round. And limited upside to the risk.

That's all I have time for at lunch today.

Alright, time to put on my Matt Miller hat and get to work here.

WSE'S DRAFT BREAKDOWN

Round 1
+ ETM's pick of Silva at No. 6. There might have been temptation to go with a forward, but Silva is as consistent as they come in fantasy.
- Maybe I'm wrong, and I often am, but I don't know about GC's pick of Kane at No. 4. Think he may take a step back this season.

Round 2
+ BPG picking Coutinho here is money. He should have been picked over several of these guys in Round 2.
- TIGER's pick of Ivanovic. Waaaaaay too early for a defender here, IMO. But he got the Chelsea pairing, so that might work out.

Round 3
+ GC's pick of Pelle. That midfield is still strong, and he should get even better this year.
- RDW's pick of Ramsey. Don't know if he has third-round production.

Round 4
+ RDW's pick of Firmino. I think that once he adjusts to the league, he'll explode in terms of goals and assists.
- ETM's pick of Rodriguez. Don't know how he'll look after the long injury layoff, and I believe Mane and Berahino were better goal-scoring picks that were still available.

Round 5
+ VKC's pick of Fonte. Such a good pick that I tried to steal it.
- MICK's pick of Bony. Fifth round miiiiiight be too early for him. Not a real bad pick in this round.

Round 6
+ ETM's pick of Wijnaldum. I'm a sucker for young talent on teams that need a turnaround.
- WAIT's pick of Courtois. Because you made me pick a GK earlier than I wanted.

Round 7
+ WAIT's pick of Payet. He's awesome.
- STICKY's pick of Falcao. Because I'm bitter and petty.

Round 8
+ BPG's pick of Wilson. Love the goal and assist potential here.
- I really don't see a bad pick in this round.

Round 9
+ MICK's pick of Ayew. He could really mess some teams up this season.
- ETM's pick of Shaw. Only because I'm not sure how much he'll play to start with...there's talk of playing Blind at LB.

Round 10
+ GC's pick of Clasie. I foresee a good amount of assists for him, great value.
- MICK's pick of Chester. I don't know a whole lot about this guy, might be my ignorance on display.

Round 11
+ GC's pick of Okazaki. Love his potential in the league as LC's scorer.
- WAIT's pick of Sinclair. I really don't know what to expect from him.

Round 12
+ RDW's pick of Defoe. If he plays a lot, he should bag a fair amount of goals for a 12th rounder.
- STICKY's pick of Adebayor. Just feel like there were better options at FWD left.

Round 13
+ GC's pick of the Ox. HOW DID HE FALL THIS FAR?
- BPG's pick of Can. What a homer.

Round 14
- STICKY's pick of Clichy. You screwed up my plan.

Lot of hate for my Jay Rodriguez pick. It was a risk no doubt but he's been tearing it up in preseason from what I read

That was the plan. Take the best GK and only have about four fields players taken before my next pick.

I am. My justification to myself is that BR has said multiple times he's going to get significant minutes at MF. And the kid has a shot on that foot. Besides its like the last round.....worth the risk.
