Young immigrants taking their dreams elsewhere

Bon voyage!
I hear Europe and Canada LOVE economic migrants.
quote:
“My parents have always told (us) opportunities are anywhere. They brought us to this country because it was supposedly the land of opportunity,” said Estrada, 26, of Los Angeles. “But if we find opportunity in another place, our country is wherever our feet take us,” she said. Estrada, a participant in President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which provides deportation relief and work permits to immigrants who were brought here as children, is one of many young immigrants who are contemplating leaving the country. They are worried about their future here as President Donald Trump’s administration ramps up deportation efforts and has recently proposed limiting legal immigration.
quote:
Because of this uncertainty, DACA beneficiaries are thinking about leaving the U.S. They fear that if they remain, they could lose their permission to work or end up at risk of deportation. Alma Cruz, a DACA recipient who works as an outreach coordinator for United Way, has a backup plan. Cruz, a Mexican native, is looking to move there, buy land, and go into the real estate business.
quote:
It may have been a farfetched idea at first, but a trip to Mexico convinced Cruz that moving back to her native country wasn’t such a bad idea[...]“Being in Mexico, I kinda … want to move back,” she wrote. “Ya sabemos inglés (We already know English), let’s move forward. Anyone feel the same?” she wrote.
Nearly 100 comments followed.
“If DACA goes away we must continue to dream big in our home countries or other countries,” one person wrote.
“I’ve been thinking about it more and more. I am well educated and talented but I feel like I’ve just hit a wall with what I can do with my life here,” another said.

This isn't a good thing. DACA kids are, for the most part, pursuing a higher education. They all speak English. They can't have a criminal history. They're not on welfare. They're the type of immigrants that we want.
They were brought here as minor children and had no say in the matter. This is, generally, the only country that they know.

Just look at how close Dearborn (Detroit) MI is to Canada.

That process does not involve skipping line. It does not involve circumventing rules. It does not involve expectations of special treatment. It involves process and law.
I am empathetic to challenges DACA's face. One of the reasons US immigration has been historically successful is past immigrants identified and met requisite challenges. They had the right stuff, the fortitude to overcome obstacles, the ingeniousness to navigate the path. They did not look for exceptions, they abided the rules.
DACAs can do that too.

The more of these people who leave their home country the more their home country goes south.

You cannot apply for citizenship if you're in the country illegally, even if you had no choice in the matter. They're caught in the middle of a rock and a hard place.
For those who were brought here as infants or toddlers, this is the only country that they've ever known and it's not their fault that they're here. DACA rules have very clear regulations that they must abide by.
I hate the idea of keeping people here who intentionally violated the law and I think that they deserve no protection. DACA kids are a coompletely different issue though.

I work with a DACA who is 25 years old. She didn't even know she wasn't a citizen until she went to get her drivers license.
She was brought here as a baby and left with relatives from a middle eastern country. She is as American as can be from a cultural point of view.
The only path to citizenship for her is to get married or go back to her country of origin and wait out the process.
If DACA goes away, she will be forced to go to a country she has never known, doesn't speak the language, and has no one. I hope this doesn't happen for her sake.

These people couldn't care less. It's really sad. Most of the claim to be devout Christians too.

How in the hell did Wisconsin get screwed out of the Upper Peninsula? It is not even connected to Michigan.

If she is hot you could solve that issue for her right away.

I would if I wasn't already married. She's pretty attractive and very smart.

Maybe we could make a deal that only attractive DACAs can stay.
IMO this is a case by case issue. If they are truly assimilated and being productive then letting them stay is a benefit to all. However, the size of the issue makes case by case extremely hard.
