Tell that to the Pilot that hit the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida.

There are no escort tugs ....A bus of Greyhound passengers learned the hard way.

Many years ago I used to have to drive the second span at night on Sundays (which is very steep), you get to the peak and look over and see the end of the second span 80 feet up. What a harrowing thought to hit the top of the bridge and discover.....there was no second half.

Maybe it was an accident. These kinds of accidents do happen. And, I'm far from a shipping expert. But, seems to me that if the ship had any control at all, the space without support structure was awfully large for it to still manage a direct hit.

Something I think is somewhat negligent is the absence of any collision barriers around the bridge supports. This isn't the first bridge to have an ocean going vessel strike a pier supporting the bridge and causing catastrophic damages. There should be collision abutments around the support piers for every bridge that has barge and large vessels passing under them.

Steering a ship is a hell of a lot different from steering a large truck.
There’s no positive response power steering.

If a ship drops anchor on the Port side, how does it make a hard right turn?

They said they turned left. Why did the ship veer right, straight into the one support that takes down the entire bridge?

Wray just named a new head of FBI Baltimore field office on Monday. Why did the FBI come out in the early morning hours stating that there was no evidence of a cyber attack or terrorist attack?

Lara Logan was on the Warroom stating her sources in the intelligence community, both active and retired, stated with certainty it was a cyber attack. Why no thread on TD about this?

There are no coincidences.

Yes, it was. Not everything is a conspiracy

Hey, shrubber …. you were obviously onboard the ship to know this …. Can you tell us if the bow thrusters were operational at the time of the approach?

for sure - first thing I thought of was = w.t.f. - no abutments??

That was a frail looking bridge to begin with - over the past 75 years, seems like the collisions that have occurred would have been a wakeup call. Cannot be that expensive compared to the cost of a potential bridge collapse.

Watch the entire accident in FAST motion.. not slow motion and you will clearly see what happened

it was not an accident, the ship was remotely controlled, the voyage data recorder was OFF,which has a redundant power source, like a UPS.was intentionally turned off.the DOT just happened to be working on the bridge and had 2 minutes to stop all traffic,no cars were on the bridge at the moment of impact.also the CEO of the shipping co. is mitch mcconnell`s sister in law,who mysteriously backed her tesla into a pond at a texas ranch and drowned about a week ago.pretty fishy stuff
