I'm a little nervous on what he's going to do on coal and some of these trade deals. Economically I'm not sure makes sense

There are thoughts that Natural Gas might be coming out of its low price era, so that might open the door for more Coal I guess.

I don't view the article as an attempt to call him out. More of an energy update going forward.

Hillary Clinton and barack obama pushed WV to Trump's side of the ledger.

Can we sell coal to countries that aren't following any EPA regulations, and might possibly be burning even worse coal anyway? I think the possibilities could be a bit more complicated.
All coal isn't created equal, and there are lots of questions.

We have the technology to use coal, hell the Germans back in the 40's were making fuel from it to power their war machine. Convert it to a liquid fuel for use here and sell it to countries that still use it.

Yeah, but we are a country that has to appease a lot of different agencies/people,and some of our coal isn't usable in this country. Some of it though, is better than what they are using in other countries.Less pollutant, plus more energy release.
Many of our power plants that used to be Coal/natural gas, have already ceased using coal at all,and have already started demolishing coal burning capabilities.

June of 2008, Henry Hub spot price of NG was $14.55/MCF. March of 2016 it was $1.59.

It would be a real fool who based their decisions concerning projects or policies on either one of those numbers.

I've said it on here before, reconciled to BTU, proven reserves of US coal constitute not only the single largest proven energy reserve on Earth, they are larger than all proven hydrocarbon reserves on Earth combined.

No serious, sane US energy policy doesn't include US coal.

I think the position on coal is they need to get out of the business of picking winners and losers.

That appeasement is about to end. The EPA and others are going to be under new management with new priorities.

We can get oil from shale and we can convert coal to liquid fuel. We can sell coal to those that use it and we do have the technology to make coal use cleaner.

Of course it doesn't make economic sense. It's protectionism. It only makes political sense.

Yeah, let me tell you. That's why he won West Virginia.

He won West Virginia because they hate Democrats with a passion and it's one of the reddest states in the country.

in fact convert it to a liquid fuel and it could run in diesel motors with a slight adjustment, we have enough known coal deposits to run every car/truck in America for the next 200 years at a cost of around $1 per gallon.

LOL - his potential pick for Energy Sec is Continental Ceo Hamm - a fracking guy - coal is dust in the wind. Also, in your spare time read up on T.Bone Pickens - that will tell you about where coal is headed.
