IRS
The political targeting of opponents using the IRS is an abomination. That is beyond question to any reasonable observer. What isn't clear is the link to the White House. Regardless, it happened on his watch and he simply does not acknowledge any need to improve this situation.

Very similar to his "amazement" of how badly the VA was being run. No, he didn't ask people to fudge the data. But again, his watch and I have seen no real response. It does look like Congress will address this issue however, so maybe it's just best he stay out of the way.

I'm guessing this complaining didn't start with Obama though

Absolutely - the left was apoplectic about Bush going to his ranch. I don't know if Bush ever soaked the taxpayers for lavish destination like Martha's Vinyard. I don't recall his ever going anywhere but Camp David, his ranch, or his dad's home. If he did, it was very few. Yet the leftists screams incessantly.

Now Obama can jet-set anywhere in the world with separate planes for Michelle and it is all OK - "a president can work anywhere."

total hypocrisy from the the leftists - again.

You don't think with today's technology he's capable of handling a wide variety of duties while on vacation?

Oh sure, he just whips out his laptop and gets on the wifi and goes to work.

OR it may take considerably longer and more complex preparation and setup for the leader of the free world to securely access everything he may need for several days.

No, but I'm sure they stayed on the property free of charge.

There are over 100 people that regularly travel with the president on short trips. 500 went with him to the G20 in 2009. This is not an anomoly with Obama. That's just how it is.

Do you think Obama travels with a "big posse" by his own choosing?

Here are some more

quote:

When President Bush traveled to England in the fall of 2003 for a state visit, the Guardian reported that "Mr. Bush, his wife, Laura, and a 700-strong entourage worthy of a travelling medieval monarch, flew into Heathrow airport." And the Telegraph broke it down further, reporting that "Mr. Bush will be accompanied by a retinue consisting of 250 members of the Secret Service, 150 advisers from the National Security Department, 200 representatives of other government departments and 50 political aides." Also traveling with the president were "his personal chef, personal assistants, four cooks, medics and the presidential 15-strong sniffer dog team," according to the report.

quote:

In 1999, the General Accounting Office (now the Government Accountability Office) issued a report detailing the amount of planning and personnel support that went into executing President Bill Clinton's foreign trips to Africa, Chile and China in 1998.

According to the GAO, nearly 500 people played a role in Clinton's nine-day trip across China, either traveling with the president, providing support to the delegation of travelers, or traveling to China earlier as a part of several advance teams that assisted in the planning of the president's trip. And nearly 600 were involved in Clinton's five-day trip to Chile that year, and nearly 1,300 were a part of Clinton's 11-day trip across Africa as well. And those totals did not include members of the Secret Service or non-federal officials and private citizens who later reimbursed the government for their travel costs, GAO said.

quote:

Also, Larry Speakes, press secretary to President Ronald Reagan, was quoted by John Hendren of the States News Service in 1992, saying: "I would say on some of the (Reagan administration's) European trips we had like 700 to 800 people involved, excluding the press corps."

:gasp:
Reagan was a baller.

Everyone understands this, and most people that critique Obama for his trips are only doing so as a response to the treatment of Bush for 8 years.

That being said, there is a price differential between going to the Bush ranch in Texas and going to Hawaii or Martha's Vineyard. Maybe that's inconsequential in the long run, but optics matter.

the initial rollout was, the final outcome vindicated the administration, and the numbers are still getting better...over 10 million people have signed up thru the exchanges.

any credit or help from Republicans to make the law better and more accessible...nope they have tried 57 times to repeal it and ran negative Obamacare ads more than 30 times than their counterparts and are still running them.

and yet its been shown in hearing after hearing that progressive groups were targeted for review just as much conservative groups and you still came to argue this because that little fact will never be mentioned anywhere in the bubble Republicans live in.

Tell that to Darrel Issa who is still convening a special committee some non existent stand down order wasting I think so far 135 million dollars.

Well if Obama came from an incredibly rich family he would have a compound somewhere too, I guess. Should we only elect obscenely rich people as President?

Certainly there is a some step between owning your own compound and vacationing on Martha's Vineyard.

If only there was a dedicated, luxurious, compound for our President to relax at.

Where should the president vacation? Six Flags over Georgia.

It's the most powerful man on the planet. He's not staying at the HoJo. None of this is unique to Obama. They all stay at the nicest places. That's exactly what the President of The Unites States should do.

God Damn you guys really, really, really hate Obama...like at an unreasonable level.

I gave you the answer, you ignored it. We have a dedciated vacation spot for the president. He need not waste millions upon millions of dollars flying to Hawaii for some reprieve.

Camp David is a nicer spot than 90% of Americans will ever have the luxury of enjoying.
