I was reminded of this, once again, regarding the homosexual issue that is continually brought up in relation to the Sochi games. Why can't many here understand that other cultures don't think like we do and it is not our place to tell them what to believe?

So other cultures just want to be gay? We should just let them all be gay and then they'd all die off in one generation.

America's systems for elections is entirely a flawed premise and keeps many people from enjoying voting.

Electing the first to a majority is just an easy way to disengage people.

There's no right, there's no wrong, there's only popular opinion. Today it is wrong to not accept homosexuality in America. 20 years ago it wasn't.

I wasn't necessarily making any statements about homosexuality. All morals are subjective? Think about that one then get back to me.

There was a time when integrating the races and (gasp) interracial marriage was frowned upon, too.

the sad part is that at one point in the very recent past, this was absolutely true. Now, when someone says/writes this, one has to assume that the person saying/writing it is either terribly informed/ignorant, or trolling.

I agree. Foreign countries didn't step in and tell us to end discrimination against gays or segregation so who are we to tell other countries what to do.

American exceptionalism is a leftover mentality from our Manifest Destiny.

We would be wise to remember this next time we try to bring democracy to the Middle East.

I guess we assume they're normal human beings who want the opportunity to live in a semi free society?

I'm totally pro gay-rights, but I think it is a pretty ridiculous how outraged we are that not everyone in the world shares our country's view (Especially given that only like five to ten years ago our country was pretty anti-gay rights.)

There are so much bigger international issues going on that we could be focusing on. I don't really have a problem with making a fuss about Russia's stance, I just think it is really, really odd the things we choose to get outraged about.

Do you think this is a result of manifest destiny or was its origination just following the British blueprint?

It was our expectation to expand westward.

After our westward expansion, we had to expand elsewhere. The ease of which we did expand led to a creation of American exceptionalism.

That created an "out-of-whack" hubris on our part, and we think we're better than others. Our civilization is superior, and our lives are worth more (Ever hear a mention of casualties in Iraq/Afghanistan...never really hear about those people).

However, there are certain "natural" or "inalienable" rights endowed by our Creator that no man should have to fight for. That goes back to Thomas Locke (and before that Thomas Aquinas).

People have always wanted to conquer other people. It is a tendency of being a human. However, we justify our expansion via God's will and helping others, so we think we are superior to our ancestors.
