Supreme Court addressed this a long time ago. It is permissable. Google Frazier v. Cupp.

You won't be committing perjury but it is a crime to lie to a federal agent!

True, I'm speaking strictly on the state level where the vast majority of criminal investigations take place.

Google civil asset forfeiture. No charges or conviction or even an arrest necessary to take everything you own.

Bottom line, keep your mouth shut even if you're not guilty. You aren't helping the cops or yourself.

My best friend was an OSI agent in the Air Force and he used to tell me that if you ever get brought in for questioning that the only thing you should say is "lawyer" no matter what they ask you. Also never drink the water they give you and if you do have anything take the trash with you because they will use that to get your DNA.

Most US Attorney Offices won't indict on charges of lying to a federal agent. You have to really piss them off to go that route.

If you don't want to cooperate that is your choice, but also realize you chose to do things the hard way so don't necessarily expect any favors on the small things.

Jeez, sounds like someone needs to study the human condition and various biases.

SO - you are saying that if your girlfriend (or other) were murdered and you didn't do it, you would be afraid of being tricked into confessing to the deed by some fancy-talking lying cop???

OR that you might lead them to the murder weapon??

Follow one simple rule

Never. Repeat never. Speak with cops regarding a crime that there's a snowball's chance in hell of you being charged with

unless what what you have to say proves you were in Italy when the crime went down, shut the frick up

This actually happens. Granted, its to people who have low IQs but it happens.
